I am just due to finish 2 years of carers benefit and have decided to apply for carers allowance. Can anyone tell me if a savings account in my sons name with me as signatory, will be included in the means test?

Who is the beneficial owner of the funds in the account? If you are, then you should declare it, if you aren't then you don't need to.

Also bear in mind that if DIRT is being deducted from the interest and if your PPSN is linked, then DEASP can obtain details of it.

My son will be the beneficiary as it is his college account. I always thought DIRT was deducted at source but never recall giving our PPS numbers?

Yes if you have a joint account with anyone then technically you could withdraw all of the money in the account so you will declare it.
