There’s an extremely loud siren sounding for the last 5 mins (since approx 23:00). I’m close to Shandon and it seems to be coming from the other side of city. Having recently moved to Cork, I haven’t a notion what it is... could anyone enlighten me?

Murphys/Heineken Brewery on Leitrim St, not far from Shandon.

They've a 1940's air raid siren before the release large amounts of steam. True story :)

That should be it; I lived in Blackrock a few years ago and often nearly fell out of bed with the shock of those sirens going off in the night. :D:D

I heard a loud air-raid nose in Rochestown this morning about 11:30. Thought it was very strange.

Heard in Glanmire around the same time. Sounds kinda eerily cool.

I remember being in Cork City in 2011 and they gave them one last blast before all Irish fog signals were permanently discontinued that year.

    Have they been reintroduced?
