Christmas Bonus

    Hey guys,

    I was approved for Disability Allowance three weeks ago. Whilst I was delighted, because it will be a huge help for me, I found it strange that it would not commence until the 11th of December. Usually your payment would begin from the next week.

    I thought nothing more about it as I am on illness/supplementary in the mean time. I was reading today that I will not qualify for the christmas bonus because I am not on supplementary long enough.

    Found it a bit suspicious that this week coming is the week they are releasing the bonus and I am not getting disability until the following week despite being approved weeks ago.

    Please do not get me wrong, I am not a self entitled person, but this bonus was so important to me. Im so disheartened.

    Is there anyway I can fight this?

    Your DA will be back dated to when you applied. You will get the bonus but may have to wait until they issue your arrears.

    You mightn’t get the arrears until after Christmas now but you will get it.
