Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Reg plate numbers...what are they at?

    Hey guys, I am stuck on the time old choice of 'ZV' vs '86 D' for my car. Going to VRT tonight. Was thinking just going with the 86 D for now and can change later if I want (but cant change the other way). Just wondering, anyone done this recently and what are the numbers at now? Ridiculously long?

    The number will be along the lines of 86-D-120xxx.

    They changed the numbering system on the 1st December 2011 for all cars older than 2011, that are first registered in Ireland after that date. The number on the reg starts with the highest number of vehicles ever being sold in that county for any given year. (For Dublin is was just under 120,000 vehicles for the year 2000).

    However, you might be able to request a shorter number that used to be assigned to a now scrapped car e.g. 86-D-1234.

    I thought that addition of 120 to ZV and year plates did occur at that time, but was later corrected. Hopefully.

    you can't do that.
