Online scam/fraud

    Responded to an ad online, lady looking for an 'arrangement'. An exchange of money for time/companionship, anything else that occurred would be between two consenting adults. Similar to an escorting service, which is perfectly legal in Ireland

    Fronted half the money (like a muppet), got really bad vibes from the lady, found out she has been scamming people online for money and blocking them as soon as she receives it, in subsequent conversations with her she was sketchy and shady as hell. Asked her to return the money and we'd go our separate ways, she accused me of being a scammer and blocked me, now refuses to return money.

    I'd like to make a complaint to the boys in blue, I'm just wondering has anyone had a similar experience? Is this something the police will likely investigate? Am I likely to draw some legal heat over this? Am I just S.O.L?

    Obviously I'm an absolute fool for getting involved in this......lesson learned, but would like to try to recover the cash. Appreciate any comments on my situation, thanks!

    S.O.L = **** outta luck :P

    Not looking for Legal Advice, just comments on the situation/possibilities/probabilities. Thought it would be an interesting discussion at least!

    Fraud is fraud and the gardai should investigate and arrest as any normal investigation (getting them to do that will be the problem).

    You yourself has said you are only paying for their time - nothing else, and nothing else is proven as it never happened.

    Now the gards will say its a civil matter, however if you can prove there are more than one instances of this (without showing that the companionship was more than that) it could be said that this is fraudulent scam and therefore criminal. Ask to speak with a garda privately and if they brush you off ask to speak or arrange meet with a super.
