You can get a red card in hurling for pulling someone’s helmet off or opening the strap. Interfering with safety equipment should be severely punished, these players will deservedly be cited for this

    Agreed.

Not the argument being debated though

Very good performance here against a determined Edinburgh.

McCarthy has been poor for me tonight. Last 10 mins has been woeful for all of them in fairness.

He is not a particularly good player. Munster would be far better off investing in Casey.

He has the tools but just can't put them together in any coherent performance. It's a shame as he was a real prospect at U20 level for Ireland. Capped in consecutive years (normally a sign of a guy set for a very good career) and captained the team too.

Darren O'Shea has been a wash out.

Cronin haunted there he definitely jumped into the maul from the side.

Lucky that wasn’t an Edinburgh pen.

Awful kick from JJ. A nothing kick.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

Why the hell was that kicked to touch off a free kick?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

    Any sealing off pens here?

    Very frustrating loss

That's a completely reasonable result given the respective team sheets.

Would have preferred a bit more caution to the wind from Munster and see what the kids can do when let off the leash a bit more. Game plan seemed quite conservative.

There's a lot of spark in that back line but we only got to see it a few times. What Munster would give to have Shaun Payne back and working with those outside backs on their positioning. Tighten up there and Munster have some real prospects.

Disappointing to lose at home but given the team sheets that's a good performance and good investment in squad depth.

JJ kicking that away off the free kick was silly.

The bookies nailed it. Edinburgh were 2 point favourites.

Wasn’t even a punt downfield to get into their half.

A bounce of the ball on a kick to nothing was the difference in the end.
    BOS, Wootton, McCarthy all poor.

I thought Daly went well, as did Botha and Marshall.
Healy settled after an unfortunate start.

I’m still not sure why McCarthy was taken, with Murray off form, him, an AIl standard Cronin and a young Casey, 9 is a real concern. Best current 9 was sent off with a signed card and lifestyle sports voucher.

Terrible position for it really. Looking for a bit of territory and contest the throw, I suppose. A turnover in open play would be more useful than a free kick in that spot.

You could say Wooton and o'Shea should be cut loose. They had plenty of opportunities over the last 2 years to kick on but it looks like they are happy to be piano shifters.
Wooton especially never looked like contesting a single kick in the air and his fielding was as bad as I've ever seen, and he had opportunities.

Running it would have been a better option. Kicking possession away 2 minutes from time was a ridiculous decision, that’s like gambling on 1000/1 shot. Especially since Edinburgh’s lineout had been comfortable all night. Either take a scrum and hope for a penalty or run it out.

    Yeah, tap and go everytime

Alby would have tapped and gone ;)

I'd have said the only worse decision would have been a scrum, to be honest. Complete coin toss on how a penalty would go based on the game and would have killed the clock too.

I think Zebo had his issues but it's incredible to think that Wooton was selected to start ahead of him in a European semi final 18 months ago.

Healy should have been allowed stay on for the 80, he was improving as the night went on. JJ comes on and does sweet f all.

Wootton was hopeless, did nothing with ball in hand and his defensive performance speaks for itself.

Botha was good and so was JOD.

Admittedly Mitera seemed to be taking the one for you and one for them approach to scrum penalties. Kicking it away though was far worse as there was nearly no benefit. The chances of turning over Embra’s throw and making it 3/4 of the way up the pitch were non existent. Just a completely mad decision. Imagine Embra scored off that lineout and Munster missed out of the LBP

Not mad..stupid. JJ and Keatly have more than their fair share of retarded plays throughout their careers, but it's up to the captain to make these types of decisions, and to be fair, it's not rocket science.

To be fair to Wooton before last night he only had 40 minutes of gametime from one match this season.
He has had some terrible luck with injuries recently
    He may be understandably rusty

The back three might have learn a thing or two about covering the backfield from last night

Thought Healy went well after a mixed opening

Losing at home is disappointing but maybe we will be able to field stronger teams in the interpros over Christmas and pick up some points there

We are still top of the conference

    Holloway leaves the province

Munster should keep going with the young player.....they had plenty of exciting young players last night, one loss and people want to throw it out the window and revert to player the seniors?

Give them a chance at least with a few games.....it is the Pro14 after all

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,833 ✭✭✭shootermacg

Think it was too big an ask. Sure we should have won the game, but we could have used a bit more experience in the right places, 15 and 9.

I think if even if Conway / Haley had played 15, Shane Daly pushed to left wing we would have won that.

    Nobody has said that.
The entire team last night was 2nd choice/younger players.
I'd like to see a mix of team that played racing and the team that played last night for the interpros

Why? Edinburgh are one of the better teams in the league and Munster should have won

They made some mistakes but they will learn, next time they will be better....giving them one chance and then dumping them is not ideal

Why? Because it would improve Munsters chances of winning while also giving game time to the younger players beside more experienced players.

Again nobody is talking about dumping the young players after one performance.
