Hi wondering if anyone here has bought any glasses for night time driving, the amount of idiots with fulls on+ misaligned lights is killing my vision whilst driving to the extent of physical pain at times when blinded full on

Had the same issue. Serious/severe headaches after driving when dark due to constant glare from oncoming lights. Tried to avoid driving when dark as was really straining the muscles at the rear of my eyes.

Trip to Vision Express 3 weeks back got me sorted. Got a pair of glasses with an anti glare/slightly blue tint to the lens.

I seem to remember in the old days™ night driving glasses had a yellow tint?

been looking into this as well , and apparently its all rubbish - yellow lenses etc .
i was mighty disappointed , as i find glare washout from oncoming lights are now hiding details at night
mainly on N roads and regional roads , its hard to see the edge of the road with oncoming lights
alot of them are very bright these days , and alot of cockwombles are driving on one full beam bulb .

getting a pair of non reflective lenses is the only real option , though i have them already
it seems keeping your screen regularly degreased and polished inside and out is the best step to help night vision glare.

if anyone knows more , id love to know as its a real problem .

If you're having problems with eyesight, go and see an optician.

Your PRSI covers an eye test, and free glasses (or €42 off more expensive glasses).

+1 - grease and dirt on the inside of glass will make it worse as it will send the light in different directions.

Just had Billy Connolly's story about his da and a prescription windscreen come to to mind. :D

Ensure you have good lights yourself as if you're driving with insufficient lighting your eyes need to adjust to absolutely maximum night vision mode (fully dilated pupils). This has two side effects:

Any inperfections on the surface of your eyeballs get accentuated (the main reason why many people have bad night vision) and the second more obvious which is that the bigger the aperture more light from the oncoming traffic will get in to blind you.

Newer LED headlights aren't helping either, feels like someone strapped the sun to the front of their car at times.

Not for those of us on a D stamp. The youngsters paying an A stamp might get it.

There badly needs to be a mandatory lumens limit for car headlights. I was driving this evening and upto half of cars have either misaligned or faulty lights or one blown bulb and another so bright it must be creating nuclear fusion. I just react instinctively with my own headlights back on them.

Sorry I know its slightly off topic but I've been wearing glasses 30 od years for driving and my optician told me at my last test my eyes are on border line on needing glasses full stop .... and said a lot of people with worse eyes than me refuse to get glasses because they dont feel they need them .....

    That really worried me
..especially at night .....especially at night in rain ....

on 1 i get flashed out the ying yang , and mine are just crappy halogens

maybe people are settings light levellers wrong , i seem to be getting a full face blast of dims all the time from other cars lately

I always thought the anti glare was some gimmick that Specsavers pushed on everyone. Never found it to make a pick of difference.
