I'm thinking of taking a law suit against my local gp as I've been going to him for the last 3 years about a problem I've had in an around my penis
After years of fobbing me off with creams and antibiotics etc

I decided to go to a different Doctor who straight away sent me to a urologist who immediately on seeing my penis said it was cancer ..and he was right

Two weeks later the top of my penis is removed and replaced with a skin graft but still lost at least 2 inches of it

3 months later the cancer has spread into nearby lymph nodes and they are removed and my leg movement restricted and I have to wear compression socks for the rest of my life

Then the final nail for me was that the cancer had came back into the penis and now I lost it all apart from a one inch stump ..apparently I had stage 3 cancer when this was diagnosed

Now if I was reffered to a urologist 2 years ago from my gp I wouldn't have had to go through so much invasive surgery (chemo is next by the way) as it would have being caught earlier at maybe stage o or stage 1 when I went to see my doctor

Can anyone give my your honest opinion and think I have a right to take a law suit against my local gp for gross negligence by not referring me to a specialist in an shorter space of time as everything else he gave me pills cream etc never worked

Sorry to hear of your situation. If you repeatedly attended with an issue that was cancer and no referral made that would appear negligent.
Boards is a terrible place to get advice on this. Go to a good solicitor for advice.

    Sorry for your troubles OP.
I agree with the poster above re proper legal advice, but you must also consider that legal action is not just about obtaining appropriate justice (through recompense), for what his incompetence has put you through, but also about preventing him from missing this diagnosis again in some other bloke down the line.

On balance, I think you should go for it - after all, your GP has taken the mickey out of you both figuratively and literally, and this has been life-altering for you. In fact, only for your own gumption in getting the second opinion, it could have potentially developed into something life-ending.

This is very true and I have been told by my consultant that I have this cancer at the very least two years and had I let it any longer than I did .. I would be looking at stage 4 and basically a death sentence
Now lucky enough that I may have a avoided this part ...my life itself has changed dramatically as anyone can imagine and I haven't even taking the physiological aspects into it yet as its consumed my life and in the process I have lost my business with stress of it all too ..plus my relationship with my partner has suffered immensely too as I'm sure anyone could guess why

What has your GP said when you updated them?

I would suggest you talk to a specialist in medical negligence, depending on where in the country you are, I'm happy to put a few names forward.

Have a Google for the names of solicitors involved in cancer misdiagnosis, cervical check etc who currently have cases in high court, these solicitors will have a better understanding of the situation and will have easier access to the relevant experts needed to testify IF/WHEN the matter comes before a court.

I'm not legally trained but have been working at the four courts for over 15years.

I never went back to him.

As advised by others, this is really a bit too serious an issue to be looking for advice on the internet.

You need to go and see a competent legal practitioner who can advise as to your potential options.

Obviously we all have great sympathy for your issue but there's very little we can do to help beyond advising you to get professional advice.

I have no advice but I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your troubles. I hope you get appropriately compensated for the negligent care you received from the first doctor.

You need to make contact with a solicitor who specialises in medical negligence. It might be worth seeing a psychologist and getting assessed. That report will be hugely helpful in legal action

Moderator: for what I hope are understandable reasons, I am going to be very particular about the enforcement of the rule against legal advice in this thread. I have deleted a couple of posts already. Please bear the charter at the forefront of your mind before posting here.
