Looking to upgrade to an estate soon enough.

Like the look of both to be fair..... maybe something within the last 5 years

    any opinions on either

Currently driving a 2012 focus that has a leaky boot so a small bit wary of the Mondeo in that regard

What sort of driving do you do?

What year are you looking at? Both wouldn't have the greatest image due to being used by the AGS, more so the i40. Clutches are very soft on the i40 too.

Kia Optima is mechanically identical to the i40 but feels a bit more posh, would suffer from the same weaknesses too though.

New model Mondeo is on a different level to the i40. I’d probably prefer an i40 to an old 2007-2014 shape Mondeo.

Mondeo all day long, the i40 is dirt in comparison. The leaky boot problem in the focus doesn't extend to the Mondeo

I have a i40 estate and not a fussy person at all ....I defo wouldn't buy another ....

Creaky dash ....read a few people have same ...

Notchy in low gears , especially in 2nd when cold.

Reverse sensors are very trigger happy ...

    I'd agree I dont trust clutch / gearbox ...

I actually love the looks and got back end tinted and really nice wind deflectors....mine is in grey ...

I've owned mine just over a year and will prob stick with it as I bought it cheap.

I40 would have been one for me. But tbh the build isn't great. My sister's had multiple problems with electronic parking break and the gearbox is absolute trash on it.

I'd go with the Mondeo. A much sounder bet.

Mondeo is a different class you only need to drive each for 5 minutes. Even the older mondeo is far superior to the Hyundai.

Try for a Mk5 Mondeo. Great comfy car to drive.

I really dislike estates with small rear windscreen and side windows.

Ya I'm leaning towards a mondeo alright.

At this stage is there still a cost benefit to bringing in from the UK

There is the new NOx charge being applied to imports from January which will be added on top of VRT. The extra charge would depend on the model in question. You would need to have the car imported and VRT'd by the end of the year to avoid it.
