E86 BMW Z4 - VRT amount?

Does anyone have any experience VRT'ing an E86 Z4 coupe?

I'm convinced it was listed on the ROS site in the VRT calculator earlier in the year, but now that I've found one I'm considering, it seems to have conveniently disappeared. (slight suggestions this is an intentional move by ROS for certain vehicles side)

As I understand it, in order to get a VRT figure for cars that aren't listed in the calculator, you have to BUY the car, bring it in for inspection, get quoted your figure, and then pay it. Only then can you challenge the figure. Makes perfect sense, right?

Aside from being a ridiculous, archaic process, it also means you cannot budget for the total cost of the sale, as the VRT remains an quantifiable amount.

So, my queries are the following, and I'd be very grateful for any feedback (or additional insights) anyone could offer.

    1. Has anyone done this recently, and if so, what did the VRT amount to?
    2. Is my understanding of the above correct, or are there other avenues I can pursue to get an estimate without buying the car first - could the car dealer check this on my behalf etc?

Some details on the car, which may provide some additional context:

    E86 BMW Z4 Coupe (non-convertible)
    3.0 Engine
    Manual
    116k miles

There is no option for 3 litre engine when you choose Manual gearbox. Choose automatic and it gives you the option. VRT on a manual will always be slightly cheaper so it will give you a good idea of what it will be. That is on a convertible so surely the non convertible would be slightly cheaper again? That being said basing your estimate on a different model/variant can be risky. You didn’t give a year in your description so I couldn’t finish the calculation but if its an older model the difference wouldn’t be too much I’d guess? If your buying from a dealer they may offer a VRT service

    Thanks user1998,

That's uncanny, I made a number of attempts yesterday with differing combinations (automatic being one of them), and wasn't presented with an engine size larger than 2.5L.

What you've suggested works, although I'm pretty certain the models it lists are for a later model despite having a 3L option (the E89 model I think). In any event, it's still more info than I had yesterday, which is always welcome, so thank you!

I'm assuming the dealer can also enquire on their side, so will begin those conversations tomorrow.

    Car is 2009 btw.

If the emissions are very different between the two cars the VRT will be very different also.

    Thanks newmember,

Fortunately I know the emissions of the car, as this can be easily googled.

Understanding what the revenue views as the open market seeking price though, well......

I will have a look for a stat code in the morning for you. They do delete them and use dump codes a lot, so what was there yesterday could be gone today.

You can contact the CVO and try request a valuation.

Much obliged Michellie, any info would be welcomed.

Seller has indicated that they could schedule a review with their nearest revenue office, although I got the impression they'd prefer not to as it's (understandably) a lot of time and hassle, so not holding out much hope.

The search for an Irish reg'd car continues.....

    Hi Calps

Did you ever get a Z4 in the end.

Please let me know I would like to discuss with you if you did. I am thinking of getting one.

    Thanks

On the cusp of purchasing one, but still none the wiser with regards to VRT. Very much a (large) calculated risk on my side, but will know if it bears fruit or if I'm stuck with a costly bill soon enough.

Sale is tentatively agreed, expect to close it by the end of the month, with VRT process to follow by end of Feb (my own estimations).

Give me a shout then for an update, (hopefully) I'll be happy to share how I got on!

Good to hear you're close to buying Calps. Don't forget to add NOx to your VRT amount now.

Thought it might be worthwhile to provide an update now that I'm out the other side of the process. Hopefully will be of use to someone in the future.

VRT amounted to just over €5000. Not what I was expecting (equates to a valuation of around €15000 - flattering but clearly incorrect). Paid up nonetheless (what else could I do), and set about drafting an appeal.

Submitted evidence to support my own valuation (donedeal/autotrader advertisements, photos of condition/obvious mechanical issues etc), and was refunded ~€2k.

Long process, but worth it in the end overall.

Now she's sat on my driveway, going nowhere collecting bird-sh1t, having covered just 150 miles since purchase (most of which was driving home from the seller). One day well get to have some fun, but for now I just need to not let the battery drain out.

Thanks for info. I'm hell bent on getting one at some point in the future. Will probably have to import as super rare. I test drove one in 2018. The best engine I ever drove. Great car and 1494eu tax is survivable.

Best of luck with your search. The tax could be better, especially when compared to the UK equivalent, but so be it. I'm planning for ~6 months usage a year, so have it SORN at the moment (which is handy considering lockdown etc.). Still an eye watering bill even for half a year though.

Ya i sold one of these a few years back. Sorry i did. Does your car fall into the €1200 tax bracket. The co2 is under 225 as i recall.

    Cheers.

    Yes, it's €1250/€693/€363 for a year/quarter/month. Pricey stuff. Emissions is 216g.
