    Hi,
Im looking to upgrade our machine in an existing build. We are entitled to the grant so we will go this way. I have contacted pearson, de laval, dairymaster. Pearson are the only ones out so far. We are milking 55 cows and its taking too long. Also going to get milk indicators & feeders & mangers. Just wanted to know if anyone on here has put in any of these machines lately & costs & trouble if any with any of these machines?

    Thanks.

Put in a 14 unit Fulwood parlour, variable speed milk and vacuum pump no other extras! Cost €32000! Priced dairymaster, Pearson and Fulwood and when it all broke down , nothing between any of them cost wise.

Went with Fulwood as got a good deal with bulk tank and back up service is very local.

    Best of luck.

Would you need ACRs with 10 units? 14-16 and up would be the stage where the cows would be at risk of overmilking. The plus would be consistent milking but at a grand a unit, roughly, it would be a dear way of getting that. Delaval have Duovac as an option, where the vacuum is dropped right down to minimise teat damage for about half the price of ACRs, so that may be an option worth looking at?

We retro fitted ACRs a few years ago into a Delaval parlour, like I said about 1k a unit, very little to go wrong other than the diaphragm on some sort of regulator starts to go about 3 years in and you have no vacuum for milking. Easily replaced yourself but not during milking. Also a bit of dirt might stop the float from rising or falling and lead to the cluster coming off early or not at all.

The variable speed milk pump is a great thing to have too.

You would want to keep an eye on your vacuum reserve as well. The Delaval VP76 will do 10 units with enough vacuum reserve without ACRs but you will need a bigger vacuum reserve with ACRs going in so you might be looking at 2 vacuum pumps. If so, have a look at the variable speed vacuum pumps, it will cost a bit more initially but will only run for fairly short periods during milking and save a good amount of electricity. All the manufacturers should have that option.

Planning on going from 6 to 16 unit. Priced a few milking machine crowds. I'm having problems trying to get a concrete builder's to come and price the tank and concrete works and a crowd to do the shed and steal works. Any one here recommend the above in limerick south tipp north cork

Put in a dairymaster earlier this year, if I was you I'd put in at least 12 units for cluster removers, went from 12 without removers to 20 with and they're very handy and at least ya know the cow will be milked the same every time, a thing to look out for is the remover pulling off before the vacuum is gone, happened here and is after causing serious problems with mastitis, it's sorted now, but hardship not knowing what was happening

Just to let you know in case you haven't heard that you can apply for a grant on the vacuum pump and variable speed pump through the SEAI grant scheme as well.

I have the one crowd doing everything in my new shed. Ground works, steel, concrete . Very handy, saves slot of phone calls. . When he is finished here he is booked out most of next year already

There's a few big lads at farm buildings here and they're booked solid for a year or more ahead.

A lot of smaller lads fairly busy too and can join up at some jobs with lads that specialise in different sections.

No. Standard droppers and wash line. Milk out of the cow and into the tank just about:D.

Thanks to all. Would like to do 12 with acrs space is the issue parlour is 34ft x 22ft. Delaval is probably best recommended so far to me, will see a few parlours and decide.

Haven’t seen the price of a machine in a long time, that doesn’t seem bad at all.

You're probably waaaay too late to do anything this off season (I'm assuming you're using the same shed as your current parlour)

Yeah using same shed. We're hoping on having all ready to go for Winter 2020. Will go up to punchestown Tuesday and have a look lads seem flat out at the minute.

A lot is to do with back up service. No point waiting days for someone to come and fix something.

That's why I went with delaval. They provide savage back up around here. You could have thrown a blanket over gascoigne, pearson, dairymaster and delaval on price.

A 10 unit would be completely different size pipework /vacume pump and motor ,so you would just pull out your 6 unit and put in the 10 unit ,I would think only the clusters and jar might be of any use

Delaval were out today priced me for putting in a new 10 unit acr, milk indicators & new electric milk pump, all new lines, new feeders, mangers, bin & augur, rump rail. Will post again when I get quote. I haven't been back onto dairymaster. So Pearson & delaval at the minute are getting me quotes. Feedback I'm getting so far is people are saying delaval is the best.

Have a 12 unit pearson here for 3 years now. No issues what so ever, but just a basic machine.
Will be putting on 6 units and removers in the next few years.
Pearson's price will be the price, delaval will be considerably dearer with first quote and will drop it when you mention Pearson's price.
That's what's happening in my area. 4 Pearson parlours have gone in in my area in the last 2 years, was going to be a 5th one but delaval dropped the price to match pearson.
Delaval will tell you all sorts of untruths about Pearson, go see a few and talk to the owners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 dairy1982

That's my plan is to see both & check the quotes. The service for Pearson & delaval is good in my area so I'm lucky that way. Thanks.

Pearson came back with quote for 10 unit parlour which includes tapered straight rump rail, mangers 2ft 6 centres, vacuum pump 1450ltr with 3kw electric motor, 75mm vacuum line. 10 stainless steel swing arms, clusters, acr hooks, ind pulsation, air line assy. 18 gal S/S receiving tank & hi flo milk pump system, stain steel 76mm milk lines & 50mm wash lines, 76mm stain steel sanitary assy, stain steel inline assy 24x4. p100 keypad with milk indicators. 10pt flexi auger system & 10 twin hopper feeders. Costing 52000 + vat, installed. Seems to be a lot in it, Im going to see a pearson parlour the weekend so some of the above will make sense then hopefully.

I'd say that sounds a fair enough price.
Your feeders are probably adding 8 or 10k on and acrs 1k a unit?

That's about it. Got the delaval price there aswell looks like there around 5 to 7k dearer. Will see both going & choose.. will look at full wood too. Wont have to decide till the spring anyway. Hopefully il get approved for the grant.

    That’s a good question.

    10unit parlours shouldn’t need ACR.
From memory we would have said from 14units upwards is where you need ACRs

We have none on our 12 unit but they would be very helpful in the spring when training heifers, you might have gotten one to settle and you have to go taking clusters off cows to stop them being over milked and then the heifer kicks off

None in our 14 unit either but as said would be very handy in the spring. Or any time really. Would price a clusterflush too while your at it.

Pearson very reasonable for cluster flush when you have removers. It's when you dont have them it costs big bucks

If using peracitic acid for flushing running costs would be high, it's like rotary parlours and the teat spray systems depending on system you'll be using nearly 3 times more spray a cow per milking than a conventional herringbone, only system that has low levels of usage is the delaval robot spray arm on their rotary that's a optional 60k extra over standard fixed system

Its only a small percent I think is used, dad inquired about it a while back but forget now. I bought a 200l barrel of paracitic last march for doing final rinse on parlour and theres 70 or 80 l of it left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 dairy1982

Youre talking 10k for cluster removers, think its worth it. consistent milkings per cow, also the father likes helping out & would be handy for him as he does have bother with shoulders up & down & tends to overmilk a bit. will price the cluster flush.

Went with delaval 10 unit with acrs after.Just finishing installing now. Was 9k dearer than Pearson. I'm upgrading my esb supply to 29kva from 12kva. Will my Bill's go up a good bit? Last years Bill's were on average €500 every 2 months. Thanks

As far as I understand it the esb bills will not rise, you will only use the same amount of kw/hrs of electricity but just have more power available, think of it like a flow of water behind a ball valve with higher pressure. The power is there but the same amount only gets used.

Did you upgrade plate cooler/bulk tank when doing parlour that's what will have the biggest bearing as with milk hitting your tank faster with a bigger parlour you need your cooling system upgraded to match

We upgraded our milk tank in 2018, we put in a 4000L Tank. I have a plate cooler fitted which wasnt on the old machine. The Electrician insisted we needed 16/20 Kva at least. My delaval man said to go to 29Kva so went with that. Im not sure if doing that was the right thing to do. Wer currently waiting on esb to upgrade our transformer. My electrician is reluctant with current circumstances.

Hope you're not in a hurry for ESB upgrade.
We paid €4444 to them 20 nonths ago to increase fron 16 to 29kva.They put up new poles and traffo and ran cables to the meter box. After numerous calls they informed me recently that the cert submitted was out of date despite the fact it was sent straight to them ages ago. I had to get my sparks to submit a new cert so still waiting. I don't want to insult anyone but the ESB from top to bottom are the most useless shower going!!!

Once well supply is good for plate cooler you'll see no real rise in electric costs, your electrican is 100% right to be fair, the breakers and fusebox loadings for the 29kva supply will be totally different if he was wiring for your current 12 Kva supply, if he wired the parlour for the 29kva and you went with the 12 kva supply to get you going you could burn the place down

Can't get anybody to add 4 units to bring my parlor to 10. Grant in place and de laval only interested in fitting robots and new parlors. Only choice here is de laval or dairymaster.
