Hi all, I hope you are all keeping well.

I am just wondering when you are on Illness Benefit do you get credited with contributions for the State Pension.

I recently requested a print out of my contributions since I began work back in the 70's.

It seems, that since I went on illness benefit (16 months), there are NO contributions made for the State Pension, is this correct ?, what can I do to get credits ?.

    Thank you in advance.

Strange- I got mine all credited over the years. It was done automatically and I had to do nothing at all.
Give your local SW office a call and ask.

Thanks for that Hawthorne. Yes, it does seem strange. There are NO credits showing for 2019 but they may only update their records at the end of the year, is that the way it was with yours ?.

2018 is also strange in that it shows 32 Class A and 18 Class J and it is my understanding that Class J is not counted as Reckonable Paid Contributions for the Pension.

It was my understanding that if on Illness Benefit that you are still credited with Class A.

    Thanks

I cannot tell you anything about the way they register the credits.
I asked for a record of my contributions last year and got the full list sent to me. Everything was on it, nothing missing. Only last years credits were not on the list.
Judging by that your theory about the credits being all registered together at the end of the year is the most likely procedure.

Correct- with IB you get class A credits.

If they recorded class J contributions for you, it is either a mistake or you forgot that you had something going at the time you got them registered for.

    Quote from the link:

    Class J employment

    • The Class J contribution normally relates to people paid less than €38 per week (from all employments). However, a small number of employees are insurable at Class J no matter how much they are paid, such as employees aged 66 or over and people in subsidiary employment.

    Thanks Hawthorne, much appreciated.

I was in touch with SW today and the credits are indeed all registered at the end of the year. They are also looking into why I was credited with J class contributions but they said that could be down to my employer.

The good news is to date I have 2122 Class A contributions.

    Thanks for all your help.
