Dispute with AO on eBay

At the end of September I purchased a Lenovo Smart Display from AO's shop on eBay using AddressPal. It stopped working a few days ago. Doesn't power on, tried factory reset, different sockets and power adapters.

I opened a return request on eBay. AO responded saying that I would need to contact Lenovo to troubleshoot the item and if they couldn't help they would give me a return number. I contacted Lenovo and they said because it wasn't purchased within the last 30 days (only a few days outside of this) all they could do is offer a repair.

I find it all very devious and sneaky. I want a replacement or a refund not a repair. AO tell me to contact Lenovo and Lenovo say because it's not within 30 days all they can do is repair. They all seem to be passing the buck.

I've left the return request open on eBay and am hoping that after the deadline eBay might decide in my favour. ::edit Just remembered I paid with a debit card not PayPal! :(

Anyone got any advice please? I would be happy with a replacement or a refund if necessary. I don't want a repair.

Ignore Lenovo, nothing to do with them.

Chase the seller for a return, Ebay will side with you.

Well known issue with lenovo laptops.

But because you used addresspal, its UK consumer rights you will be looking at.

But even if it was here, the offer of a repair once it is permanent, is sufficient.

I had similar issue with a lenovo. I had to send it to the UK place I got it from, they sent it to lenovo in germany, who sent it back to the uk and they sent it back to me. I would have much preferred to send it to lenovo directly and save a few days delay.

Legally its the responsibility of the retailer, but for repairs, its far easier to deal direct.

Two years later, the laptop is still working perfectly and in daily use.

  • Not a laptop.
