Looking to move into freelancing

Hi all, looking to become a freelancer in media. I can’t do a lot of shifts in my current 9-5 job so I’m hoping to leave, find something more flexible part-time while I build up my portfolio as a freelancer. I’ve a couple of different income streams atm anyway but I’m just wondering how this works with social welfare?

I’ll be leaving my job voluntarily so I know I can’t claim for nine weeks but after that, can I go on jobseekers for the days I haven’t got freelance shifts?

And has anyone any advice on how much savings I should have before taking the leap? My current job has really gotten in the way of my career as I’ve had to give up opportunities as I can’t get time off and I can’t stay there for much longer.
