Schiphol Airport on lockdown as plane 'hijacked by three men with knives'

The incident is reportedly taking place on board Air Europa flight UX1094 from Amsterdam to Madrid that had been due to take off this evening

Police have swarmed to Schiphol Airport this evening after reports of a suspected hijacking during boarding of a plane.

There are unconfirmed reports that men armed with knives have attempted to hijack an Air Europa plane that was due to fly to Madrid this evening.

At least 27 passengers were on board when the hijacking alert was reportedly triggered.

Some flights at the airport have been grounded, according to a passenger on a plane that had been due to take off this evening

How did they get knives onto a plane?

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

Hope the passengers on the aircraft are ok. Sounds totally crazy. How do three people get on a aircraft with knives taking off from a major European airport in this day and age?

How did they mistakenly come to think it was being hijacked? I can't imagine how that could happen!

I wonder who gave the unconfirmed report of the 3 men with knives.

Ah stop you could only laugh reading the thread from the start without prior knowledge.
How can you possibly mistake a hijacking when that much detail was given.
Surely a prank but to call it an error is hilarious.

    Well that's disappointing.

I watched Ransom about a plane hijack on the ground not long ago. Sean Connery saved the day of course.

Pilots have the ability to silently signal a hijacking by switching the transponder code to 7500. It's a universal thing and seen by ATC.
Happens frequently enough & actually happened to an Aer Lingus flight last year which was trying to squawk code 7700 (general emergency) having lost power in one engine; and got a digit wrong. They were politely corrected!

That much may have been an error and the rest was almost certainly a mixture of leaked and made up.

This is totally bizarre. I was watching Sky News and they said that the report came from the Dutch police. How could they get the idea that the plane was being hijacked? Would they not have had a wee chat with the crew of the plane and airport security before issuing a statement?
    Much egg on some faces?

You know what’s even more bizarre? There was apparently a fire alarm set off at Utrecht Centraal station at the same time, causing the station to be partially evacuated, that was also a false alarm: https://www.ad.nl/utrecht/brandmelder-ingedrukt-ontruiming-utrecht-centraal-even-in-gang-gezet-maar-het-bleek-loos-alarm-br~a5eaf206/?referrer=https://www.ed.nl/binnenland/air-europa-over-schiphol-per-ongeluk-kapingsalarm-geactiveerd-het-spijt-ons-zeer-br~ab8a89ab/
