Car radio problem

    Hi all.
Radio in my wife's Fiat Panda went belly up and needed to be replaced.
I had a fairly decent JVC model and stuck it in and tuned it successfully but the problem is when I switch off the ignition and switch it back on again I get just static.
If I then press the number buttons where the stations are tuned, the station selected for that button will play, so it's not a case of losing memory in the usual way, also if I've been playing a USB stick it'll start from the beginning again.

I took the radio out and checked the wires in the loom, the two lives are red and yellow, the red is connected to the yellow and vice versa.
It has been done in a very professional manner with bullet connectors and sleeves, obviously somebody who knew what they were doing.

I thought great, easy fix, just reverse them but no such luck. When I reverse the connections the ignition is on permanently, even with the key out, I'm no electrician so I'm at a loss what to do next.

    Any ideas?
