    Hi.

I’m currently on job seekers And potentially have a job offer. I will however have to work a back month until I get paid which will make things very difficult financially

Does anyone know is there a facility which will support me while I work that first month until I get paid?

Bit strange to work a full month and get no money. I remember 2 weeks wages kept by the employer. You got it back when you left. 4 weeks is a it much. But may be times changed.
Tell SW about the problem. They might have a way to help you.

I read it as they won't get paid for a month. So start on the 1st and get paid on the last banking day of the month, which would make the first month hard. I've no idea if the SW will do anything though. Best just to ask them.

This has been a problem for me before, but I believe SW do now cater for this and will provide support for the month. Approach them.

They give a bridging payment that ensures you are not stuck, I have recently taken on 4 lads off the dole and they are on monthly pay. They went with a letter from me saying when they would be paid and they went to their local officer and got a form to fill in, they all got paid straight in to their bank. Talk to the folks in your local office they will help you.

Go in and make an appointment with the Community Welfare Officer in your local Intreo.
They will pay you until you get paid from work, as the other poster says , you will need a letter from your new employer confirming the date of your first pay with them.

If you have returned to work, you can claim the basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance for up to 30 days while you are waiting for your wages.

What I had to do (and was literally told to by a person in the dole office) was to just not sign off until you get paid from work. Then when you sign off just explain it to them, tell them you started work on whatever date but had no wages til now etc. They will get notified of the date anyway eventually

They will then write out to you to say you were overpaid as you werent entitled to payment for dates from x to y and ask you to pay it back either in a lump sum or via a weekly amount. They will suggest a weekly amount though you can actually set the amount yourself (I paid a tenner a week) based on what you can afford.

It sounds daft, and is IMO but they told me that's the only thing they could do. They never suggested going to the community welfare officer but different centres likely have different ways of doing things, mine the guy is only there one morning.

If you do this though be aware the dole is paid in arrears and the week doesnt go from mon to fri so like in my case i collected only the one week but they ended up saying I owed for more than one week as a result of how they do the dates.
