Hi I'm looking for advise for runners for my 13yr old. She has over pronation. Her current runners are asics gel 1000. I wanted to get her a better quality runner as she was advised by physio to wears stability runners, I believe they are the most basic ones??

We looked at the kaynos but at €180 they would want to be good!! She has tried them on and they are very comfortable. Will prob stick with asics as they seem to suit her. Any advise welcome. She is running up to 10km when doing her distance sessions and trains 4/5 times a week currently.

I have Kayanos 24 from the ASICS shop in Kildare, great value at 90 euro and love the shoes themselves.

If you want ASICS and not too bothered about not having the very latest model, it’s usually the best on offer.

Thanks for reply, just after I posted weren't the kayanos reduced in lifestyle to €125 so got them. I'm not near Kildare unfortunately so relying online or her Uncle can get a discount for us through his work.

Just to highlight, while the GT1000 are the lower end of the technical spec in the ASICS guidance shoes they are built with the same materials the GT2000 and Kayano would have used several seasons back.

They use the older tech to keep the price point at the lower end.

Your daughter will appreciate the heightened comfort of the Kayano and fit of the upper which uses plusher materials than the GT1000.

Hopefully you have got the sizing right so shoe doesn't wear through the toes, always get measured and go up a half to full size from there.

Is your daughter having injury issues? Just wondering why the physio is recommending stability shoes for a 13 year old? The term over pronation is very vague and even so is not always a bad thing. You could see if a neutral pair of runners would do her better in the long term, unless there is some biomechanical reason she needs a stability runner.

Good point, especially as young girls are so prone to hyper mobility of joints due to hormonal relaxation of tendons & ligaments.

Have seen guidance shoes recommended by physios to mitigate excessive foot rotation as a precaution to over mobility injury risk in casual runners. Stabilising exercises & form awareness work better in the longer term.
