ESB Networks are rolling out smart meters.
We are Electric Ireland domestic customers.

Our set up is such that the information from the smart meters is not really going to be of much use to us.
Apart from the meter readings being sent directly to Electric Ireland a smart meter would not be of use.

    Q. Are we obliged to have a smart meter fitted or can we decline it?

A related question occurs to me.

If an Electric Ireland customer gets a smart meter is there any problem subsequently changing suppliers ?

    Hi AnnaStezia,

Thank you for getting in touch.

As ESB Networks are overseeing the roll-out, your request to opt-out would need to be reviewed by their team

If you send your details, we can pass on your request to ESB Networks.

We will require the following details via private message:

    - Your full name
    - Your account number
    - Your contact number
    - The first line of your address
    - Confirmation that you are the account holder (Yes/No)

    Kind regards,
    Aoife

    Hi Nutley Boy,

Thank you for getting in touch.

These meters are being fitted by ESB Networks regardless of what supplier you are with.

Currently, electricity meters are manually read by ESB Networks up to four times per year. Smart Meters will automatically send the meter readings to ESB Networks, who will provide them to the electricity supplier.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Kind regards,
    Aoife
