At the risk of sounding a bit like Mr. F starting this thread, I am in a hotel this weekend so my stupidest mistake is on my mind again.

I was staying in a well known hotel in the heart of Donnybrook with the missus. On the way up I collected payment from a customer and as it was late I didn't have time to lodge it. We had a great weekend and checked out and headed down the M7 towards home. I was halfway down the motorway when I remembered that I had just left the customers €5000 in cash in the room safe and had totally forgotten it. Probably the worst drive back I had ever made. Rang the hotel and they wouldn't confirm it was there or not until I was there in person. Arrived back and the manager made me count it and sign a receipt but my nerves didn't settle for a week after. All was well that ended well but it would have been a tough one to swallow.

    What about you After Hours?

Look at me I had €5000 in cash casually lying around in a hotel safe and that's so normal for me I didn't remember it until I was half way home. Yea right!

I should have been more clear. It wouldn't have been unusual for me to have sums like that at the time as part of my job. It was collected on a Friday evening to be lodged on the Tuesday after the bank hol weekend.

why would you be worried if it was in a safe? its not like you had it thrown on the floor of the hotel room.

Hotels empty room safes after checkout. Once left my passport in one and remembered a few hours later and collected it from reception.

Probably defeats the purpose of a safe but they need some workaround for such scenarios.

Me and a couple of friends went on the hop from school once and borrowed my friends dads car. Was a really nice one and my friend was so worried something would happen to it. We left it in a garage in town in dublin. Nice place with a valet attendant so my friend would be at ease. Had a blast in town, but we had to leave and get home before school finished. Looks like the attendant took it for a bit of a spin as mileage was good bit higher. Friend went nuts for about 2 hours, in the end he said it was cool. Tried put the back of the car In the air and sticking it kn reverse, did nothing though. Friend then leaned on the bonnet of the car and it spun into reverse and into a ditch that ran along his drive way. Definitely an oh feck moment

I was about 12, my dad had just sold a car we had, he came home for lunch and left the money for it in the house. When he left i picked it up and pretended i was going to spend it in the shop and put it in my pocket. About half an hour later my cousins landed and took us to the swimming pool, i went and forgot the money was still in my pocket. We were in the pool for an hour and near the end of that hour i suddenly remembered about the money, which was in an open locker in my pocket in the changing room, stuff was constantly getting stolen from the locker room at that time. When i ran in the money was still there, all 5 or 6 thousand of it (i can't remember how much exactly). I sh1t my pants, when i got home i was met with my very angry parents, got the had chewed off me.
