I'm wondering if they'll install chargers there ?

There's a lot of garages on the N7 , I fail to understand why anyone thinks this being so close to the closest stations on the N7 is a good idea when the next one is on the M9 at Tinryland ?

2 chargers is a start but 50 Kw is taking the absolute P1ss. You couldn't make this sh1t up, after all these years they install 50 Kw chargers on a Motorway.

Early 2020 for the first of the 150kw hubs supposedly.

That has to be the first 2 newly installed DC chargers since 2015, new as actual new site !

They're saying 4 to 8 chargers at each one. Hopefully they can get it done quickly once they start, Ionity aren't far off having 6 hubs up an running in about a year, I'd expect Ecars to be a good bit slower.

It would be good if Ionity could install chargers there too.

Yeah, when you look at the Ionity map the M9 and M7 are notable in their absence unless their intention is for the two hubs at kill to serve both of them, but surely it would make more sense to have them a bit further from Dublin.

Yes further from Dublin would make a lot more sense, in fact the Circle K should have been further South from Kilcullen, there's a tonne of Garages on the N7 especially heading South.

Tinryland would make a good spot.

I tried out the new M9 charger this morning and it's nice to see 2 on site. But, notice something odd about the layout ?

    Care to elaborate ?

I presume he's agreeing with you! One of the chargers should be further to the right and there should be 4 spaces instead of 3.

I can only assume the circle k folks limited them to 3 spaces?

What am I missing? 3 bays, 2 chargers? That although 4 cars could charge at once, this layout means only 3 can?

Yes only 3 spaces, it's a bit odd unless they are going to use the last 2 spaces to the 150 Kw chargers, this makes sense if they plan to install more chargers but this would only be 3 chargers and if I recall, they were planning more on site ?

I’m agreeing with you! The layout is gammy. There should be two spaces per unit, since two cars can use each unit simultaneously (albeit with one on AC). But this layout prevents that.

Yeah got that after, tired, working shifts.........;)

Yep unless as I said earlier , they might install 2 x 150 Kw chargers beside.

Layout looks alright to me. Clearly setup for expansion.

    That's what I'm thinking.

Right in front of MacDonald's. All spaces were ICEd recently. If they intend expanding why not space them out now and add other chargers in the middle later. Ideally each charger should be access able from back and front, 4 spaces per charger, with a barrier blocking access to the area activated by an RFID card or the app. Without a barrier they should be in least demand area to try reduce ICEing. Its not like a brand new motorway services should not have enough parking spaces. Mount them like petrol pumps with a canopy to keep charger and users dry.

Or better yet, put the ICE driver out in the elements with their petrol and diesel pumps and give the EV driver who has taken the investment into cleaner transport the benefit of having shelter. :D

It's seriously taking the p1ss alright , we need shelter, other places do it and we will soon have to pay to endure this.

How many Zoes doe you think will want to charge there at the same time? More than one? :p

Layout looks fine to me. Nice long cables, caters for cars with charge point in front but also in either rear side (petrol tank location). Well thought out. Unlike the eCars chargers

Except of course that it is right in front of the McDonalds. Should have been either at the farthest point in the car park or strictly enforced EV only

Charged there on Monday evening on the way back from Kildare - it was busy! When we arrived, both chargers were in use, so we just sat in the middle space and waited for one of them to become free. Once we were plugged in, we headed inside for food and coffee. Barely a seat to be had! By the time we got back, the other charger was in use by another car.

Maybe it was especially busy on account of the bank holiday, or perhaps the novelty of a new service area. Will be interesting to see how busy it is at other times, and also what effect the new fees for charging have. They might need to add extra units before long!

Funnily enough then the 3 car layout allows for a car to be waiting while others connected without moving when one car plugs out.

Obviously if a zoe comes along move out to allow them in.

Goes to show how mental the current one charger system is. Two isnt even enough. 4 minimum is required.

Well, they're free (from fees) chargers, so people will always take them up on that.

Zoe, i3, e208, Tesla, ID3... Anything that can take 11+ kW AC can take fast AC if needed.

None of them (except Zoe) will if ESB implemented a 50c/kWh + 50c/minute + heavy overstay charge

Pricing should be such that fast chargers are only used by fast charging cars, for a short period of time.

I wouldnt bother taking 11kW AC in my tesla if I'm paying FCP rates for it and a 45 min time limit. You'd get 8kWh to the car or about 30km!

Fast ac is for fast AC, not quicker slow AC!

Yes but if you are waiting on a CCS or chademo to come free 11kw is better than 0kw and you reserve your spot.

Price is per kWh so cost would be 8kwh x 33c or 2.40 euro ish

Makes zero sense if it's per minute. But if it's not 30 mins on 11kW can be a matter of life and death :) 5.5 kW is better than 0 kW.

I usually spend my time waiting for the DC connector, calculating how much range I would of gotten had I plugged into the AC plug.

11kW not worth the hassle of faffifng about for 10 minutes while waiting, starting and stopping the charge, explainning that you are not ending the other charge etc
    Not worth it.
