Renault Megane question

Hi, my son is looking at buying his first car, and small engined diesels or petrols are thin on the ground. He will is looking at driving Cork to Waterford 4 days a week until May, so a diesel is preferable. He spotted a 2012 1.5 DCI Megane Dynamique Estate with 127K Kms on the clock. I went and had a look at it for him, and it is really clean, spotless inside and a couple of small scrapes outside. When I drove it, I felt the gear change was really "notchy", not at all as smooth as my Mokka. They also had a 2012 Megane Coupe and that felt quite similar. Anyone with a Megane have any comment? We have a small deposit on it to hold it, so I think I'll get a mechanic to check it over anyway. Its from an independent dealer, who is around 30 years. The Megane did well on the Honest John reviews, too.

My wife has a 2012 Megane estate (probably selling shortly due to going electric) with similar mileage. The gear changes should be pretty smooth - not necessarily silky smooth but they shouldn't be noticably "notchy".
If you go with a Megane ensure you get the 6 speed 110bhp model for a commute like that rather than the lower (90bhp??) model which I believe is 5 forward gears.
And make sure the timing belt has been replaced - it's a 500-600 job.

Yeah 6 speed be best I've the 5 speed and Tim getting between 6 to 6.6 litre/100km.

If y'all be careful as very low down and I can't help but smack my head each time getting in especially.

They can be got cheap and the engines are very reliable.

Renault has really improved a lot since around 2009 onwards.

@OP why go for the estate? Does he really need all that space. Why not buy the coupe if its still there as there would not be much difference in other costs and he might as well have a stylish car when he is young instead of what is basically a family/old mans car not that its a bad looking car. He can buy a car like that when he is older and has a family.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The hatch and coupe are tiny.

If possible go for gt line. Nice looking with them few extras

Its and average sized car the same size as a Focus or a Golf. I would hardly call that tiny. There is plenty of room in the Megane Coupe for 4. I should know I was in one.

Tiny is a Smart fortwo or a Toyota Aygo.

Well to me they ain't big and if you seen the seat position fully back a sheet of paper is all that would fit behind me.

I didn't literally mean a old style mini size small.
