Reversing lights on Ford SMax 2009

    Hi all,

This might seem like a stupid question.

My Ford SMax has one reversing light in operation. It's on the driver offside.

It passed the NCT a few days ago.

When I look into the lighting perspex, each side has a bulb in it.

How many reversing lights is the SMax supposed to have?

If it's only one side, what would be the point of a redundant bulb on the other side?

The manual doesn't offer any insight.

It would be very unusual to have one just in the drivers side.

I’m pretty sure there are reversing lights on both sides.

If a car had only one reversing light, and one fog light.

The fog light is on the drivers side and the reversing light on the passanger side.

If you only have one reversing light, and it's on the drivers side, I would imagine that the car has two bulbs and one is blown.

Thanks. I've written to Ford Ireland to get clarification.

I tested the bulbs with a multimeter and they were functional.

    Update

As a final attempt, I gave the lights a thump with my fist and then reversed again.

Both reversing lights were illuminated now.

    Success. Just a loose connection.

The rule of thumb seems to be:

o Two fog lights with two reversing lights

o One fog light with one reversing light

    Thanks all

My civic had 2 reversing lights and one fog light.

Just to bust your theory :)
