Hi all, I bought a sky hd box on eBay for free to air channels. It is on Irish EPG, I’d like to change it to UK EPG, but I understand that you may not be able to do this anymore? Any suggestions?

You need a uk viewing card.
If you know anyone that has one you can get a loan of it, connect the box to broadband and do a new install.

UK cards were available on Adverts some time ago, I got one a few years ago, it's still in use. In my experience you have to leave the card in the box or each time you unplug the box it reverts back to its original subscription listing.

Thanks lads. Yeah I was looking on adverts for a viewing card, none available at the moment. It’s not a major deal, just makes itv easier. Thanks

IF you can connect the sky hd box to broadband with uk card in the slot and do a new installation in the installer menu then the box will overwrite the irish epg with whatever is on the card. you can then remove the card and you will still have a UK epg, useful if you have more than one box but only one card .

Tried that, reset it yesterday and left it unplugged for 24 hours, worked as you said.

Tried this on 2 sky boxes connected to internet. New install on both failed due to "callback failure".

I have checked again as it is some time since I did this last, still working fine here, "callback in progress" lasts about 15 seconds then installation is complete.

Is the software on your boxes up to date?. have you a fast broadband connection?.

Just trying this with my sky HD box, the Irish epg wasn't overwritten. I have a white UK sky card, and the box is connected to broadband.
    Any thoughts?

You don’t need a UK viewing card, you can trick the box into thinking your in the UK.

    Go to sky news.
    Press the red button.
Pull the card out of the box.
Turn off box with the remote.
Turn on box with the remote.

    101 is now BBC1, 102, BBC2 etc.

Thanks, hunkymonster, that doesn't work on my sky HD box.

I did as Jonnygee suggested earlier in the week and it worked for me, still have BBC 1 on 101. Might it be to do with your card, the card I have I got on adverts a few years ago, it has a sticker on it, HD BOX ONLY.

    Hmm it should do.

Ok if that doesn't work this will.

    Go to Sky News.
Press red button to bring up interactive menu.
    Remove card.
Press "Backup" on the remote control.
    Should go into search mode.
    UK EPG.

Thanks to you both. The UK card I have isn't a hd card, it does reset a standard sky+ box. I'll try hunkymonster's instructions tomorrow and report back.

Just to be clear, the method that i have described is not some sort of hack or cardtrick. It is how the box is designed to work. It doesnt not work. It is how the box was originally regionalised.
It is not specific to irish boxes. It will regionalise any box from any region.
If you want to set a box to a specific region (Northern ireland in my case) then it,s worth doing if you have access to a card.

Ok, just tried this. The red button doesn't bring up the interactive service, just a message to say that I need to be connected to broadband (which I am), and I also need a sky+ subscription.

If you have a UK sub card by just putting it in the box you should be able to access the UK epg. Doing the installation reset would mean you would only need the card once.

Thanks, decor - I finally reset the sky HD box to the UK EPG. I thought I had been using a UK card, but have just discovered that I'd been trying to reset with an old Irish card ( both look exactly the same). Got the UK EPG now, time to organise the favourite channels!

    Thanks to all who replied.

Got my hands on a old Sky + HD box with a Irish card. Does the above still work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,577 ✭✭✭✭MEGA BRO WOLF 5000

Not sure. Is there even a red button for sky news anymore?

Just got a second hand Sky+hd box for free to air viewing, but its an Irish setup one, so I'm going to try some of the tricks as outlined above, wish me luck 🤞
