Buying coffee this morning on the way to work & i see a newspaper headline where man was convicted of possession of child pornography but he somehow keeps his job as a bus driver; given that children often travel on buses how is this legally possible? I thought someone with potential access to children had to have a clean record?

    Dont buy those rags.

    They lie.

I don't think they're lying here - it looks like a very specific policy is in place and he has fallen through the cracks. That's from my reading of what is admittedly a tabloid rag.

If your working with children ,ie school, preschool , sports clubs .

You don't get vetted for working on public transport unless it's a school bus

Papers seem to suggest you do have to be vetted for Dublin Bus. I'm not saying your wrong and their right just relaying the content of the article.

Garda vetting as already stated is only required for those working school buses, otherwise it is not required for general public bus services.

However, in their last recruitment drive DB stated all applicants would be subject to vetting.

Doesnt a clean vetting record last for an amount of time? so a conviction won't be flagged untill the next vetting happens.
sex abuse convictions are usually not published, so an employer would have no evidence to back up a firing

New staff are garda vetted but existing staff don't get vetted on a regular basis. Also Nothing would show up unless there is a conviction so even though the above case shows an incident many years ago, vetting will show blank until now.
