Job Seekers Allowance Issue

The last time I got fired it wasn't until about a month later that I applied for job seekers allowance again. When the claim was finally granted, the handout I got gave me the money for that month period. Is that the way it is supposed to be?

However I got fired again recently. And once again it took me quite a while to make a welfare claim. With everything going on surrounding me being let go, making a dole application was the last thing I wanted to even think about. So when this claim finally came through, I didn't get paid the interim period. I thought I'd still be entitled to get money for that period as I proved that I wasn't employed. Do they just decide to make up their own minds how they're going to do it, or is there a reason or rule in place that means I'm not entitled to the money I would have got if I applied earlier?

I guess it did take it for granted, and that was why I was in no rush to make a claim in the first place. To make things more complicated, I've just got another job now So I guess I'm off the dole again... although I didn't tell them yet. That means that during my 6 weeks unemployed that I'll only get 2 week's money!

At least I'm trying. If I gave up entirely they'd have no problem giving me handouts.

Deciding Officers have strict rules to stick to but they also have some “discretion”.
If you are sacked justifiably then they can disqualify you for up to 9 weeks the same as if you walked out of the job without a good reason. That means that you’d lose 9 weeks.
The first time you got sacked and didn’t claim for 4 weeks the DO decided to let it go.
The second time it happens you won’t get away with it.

That’s not true. If they think that your deliberately making yourself unemployable through your behaviour at work, then they can decide that you’re not “looking for or available for” work and you’ll be suspended indefinitely.

My point being that if someone didn't bother searching, thye keep getting the handouts, but if someone tried and mysteriously got fired, then they go hard on that guy.

Don’t worry about what other people are getting or not getting.
Don’t get fired again and you won’t have to worry.

Yes, but you think I'm some sort of a trouble maker and that that's the reason I got fired. There are a few cow boy employers out there that'll treat people like sh1t.

My advice is to only take a job if you're sure it's a good fit for you.

I've said it before and I'll say it loudly again: many jobs in Ireland are no better than slavery.

    Good luck.

    So, you lasted a week?

Were you fired over lying about your DOB?

Just today I got a letter from social welfare that I am to attend an activation review meeting this Friday. I've work. I better tell them that I can't go. Maybe I can tell them that I only just got my new job (the one that I lied about my DOB in).

Extremely difficult to get fired twice. You should bring this information to the deciding officer as it is very likely you are entitled to nothing. Don't withold any info, and as everyone is telling you cut out the lying.

Bring what part to the deciding officer's attention?

What do you mean entitled to nothing?

I was fired from the first job because I'd work on the same day as an interview (for a real job) that was was 150 miles away from home. All would've been fine if it wasn't for the fact that one of the interviewers (the director) was late for the interview. I was on probation in the other place and I got fired for being late after the interview. I was successful in the interview but they turned out the be cowboy (or should I say cow women).
