I didn't realise children's allowance is available the first Tuesday of every month, which was last week, can I still collect it in the post office?

Of course you can. It's available from that date, not exclusively on that date.

Is it not all automatically paid in to your bank account now

No, you still have the option of collecting at a post office.

You can collect it up to three months after the date it was paid.
