    Hi
I am due to start contracting into a company next week ( daily rate ST contract), and I have just received a summons to attend for Jury service in 4 weeks time.

I don’t qualify for any of the standard exemptions - but may be able to argue on the grounds of being self employed. Has anyone been successful with this argument? If I don’t turn up to work...I don’t get paid!

Just write back on the form stating your reasons and they will likely just excuse you.

They don't really want people there who don't want to be there either.

I've been called 3 or 4 times and always been excused as requested, they are very reasonable about it.

    Thank you!!
Did you have to give any supporting documentation?

No, didn't have to give anything at all. I just received a letter back after a week or so saying I had been excused.
