Job Seekers Benefit for Self Employed

Hi , I believe Job Seekers Benefit (the one that is not assessed) will be available for the Self employed from Nov 2019.

It mentions that a self Employed person needs to have paid about 260 PRSI contributions to claim 9 months jobs Benefit . Also the Self Employed person can claim 6 months Job Seekers Benefit if less than 260 PRSI contributions have been made.

I was wondering , if somebody has paid over 200 PRSI contributions as a PAYE worker and 60 PRSI contributions as Self Employed can they be combined so that the Self Employed person can claim the 9 months Job Seekers Benefit .The PAYE PRSI contributions and Self Employment PRSI payments were consecutive .

    Regards,

My gut feeling is that you both should be and would be eligible, but strangely the Minister's Press Release of 29 April last, suggests not:

"The new benefit will be paid for 9 months for people with 260 or more self-employment PRSI contributions paid. It will be paid for 6 months for people with fewer than 260 self–employment PRSI contributions paid (same as current Jobseeker’s Benefit scheme)."

There's not much information publicly available at this point in time, but hopefully the eligibility criteria will be clarified during the next couple of weeks.

    Press Release
