Seems that stamp duty on ag land is increasing.

Money for environmental schemes. I think he said 3million. Which means a couple of handy state jobs really.

If i could get one of those handy state jobs locally..... I'd be able to keep farming

Link to Farmers Journal with details in the budget that affects farmers. I hope it is free to view but apologies (Muckit) in advance if it isn't.

youd imagine price of land will drop, between stamp duty, planning permission, horse industry slowing down and general ag uncertainty.

High interest rates are the only thing that drives Down land prices

I don't know about that. Plenty of land around made north of 50k an acre 12 years or so ago. It probably won't be up at that again in my lifetime and that's not because interest rates increased since! (They'd actually be lower now!)

Probably speculative land purchases hoping for planning permission for either industrial or housing units.

Nope. Most of it pure agricultural land with no hope value.

Admittedly driven up in price by lads who had gotten away other land for building but land they bought will not be ever used for anything else in my lifetime or a few more!

What your talking about is development land, ok maybe the land purchased had no development value but the land sold for development funded those purchases, make no doubt about it

It’s a lot easier give crazy money for a few acres when you have a bulging bank account from selling some development land yourself

    Someone else bids them up.

It doesn't matter where the buyer gets the money, what matters is what they pay for what they buy.

Is this confirmed or is farm land excluded?

Farmers Journal says 1.5% increase on agri land to 7.5%.

The lowest it has been in recent times was 2% and I think the highest prior to that was 12%

Relief to 1% still stands for consanguinity relief I wonder?

I was paying 1.65% interest at that time

Creed: Carbon tax rise ‘will not affect the price of green diesel’

    It's not all bad so

There's a €10/calf scheme similar to BEEP for dairy calf to beef farmers and also some scheme to do with vaccinations of stock.

    https://www.farmersjournal.ie/budget-2020-10-calf-for-dairy-to-beef-weighing-programme-500077

Still no reductions in VAT for vaccines from the top rate to the possible 5%rate so the reductions in antibiotics use they keep wittering on about seems less important that collecting the vat on the vaccinations to reduce antibiotic use:rolleyes:

Yes including farm land. 2017 allowed a grace period until December to get contracts signed on the previous stamp duty figure so I imagine same will be possible here
