Hey there, I hope somebody could advise me. My 17 year old just got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. We applied for the Long Term Illness card. I am on disability allowance myself for a number of years. We are finding it incredibly difficult financially atm. Our food budget alone has doubled since her diagnosis. I am just wondering if anyone knows whether we can apply for anything extra to help us out financially. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

you don't get the Disability allowance on diabetes alone, only if their is Complications (kidney, heart ect).

Your food budget should not have increased because she is type 1. Their is no special diet for someone with type1, just a healthy diet. Maybe try to speak to a dietitian in the Diabetes clinic who could advise.
