    Hi,

I sold my car to a stranger for cash (I know, it's complicated) - now he is looking for the vrc which I would have no problem giving to him but I think he may be planning on getting money for scrapping it.
Where do I stand with this? Insist he become the owner of the car before he does this? Or refuse to give it to him? Not sure what to do.

    Thanks!

Its not complicated. Send the VRC off with his details on it.

Don't see why it matters what he does to be honest. You sold the car to him, he can do as he pleases with it.

The VRC needs to be sent off to transfer the ownership . He'll get an updated one. He can then use that to do whatever.

You sold the car, the sensible thing you should have done was had the buyer sign the VRC along with their address and you post it to Shannon. Once that was done what they did with the car is none of your concern.

You should transfer the vehicle ownership to the buyer asap, that's your (the sellers) responsibility. Whatever he/she does after that is not your concern.

Don't give him the VRC, you should both sign the relevant bit on the form and then send it to Shannon yourself.

You need to register the change of ownership with the Department of Transport. Then you are done.
It's none of your business what he does with the car. It's his car not yours.

    What year is the car?
If it's post 2004, you need to send it off as suggested above.
If its pre 2004, you send off the VLC and give the new owner the VRC

That was a bit silly, they could be getting fines, stealing petrol etc and it will come back to you. Make them fill it in and send it off yourself, ALWAYS.

    This is bizarre....

VLC is filled out, take a photo of all sides, put in envelope addressed to Shannon and it's free post so no stamp required.

Get owners details fill in and send it off with date of sale as you are still responsible for all fines etc as it's still in your name....

It's actually the easiest part of a sale.

Probably a part time dealer. There’s been so many people caught out by handing over the cert over the years that it’s just not worth the hassle. Send it to Shannon with his name/address on it as you are required to do by law and he should have it in a few days.

What he does with the car afterwards is his business.
