No insurance will not cover maintenance. What car is it? Year, manufacturer, model and engine? What exactly is wrong, what symptoms does it have?

Is it smoke or steam? What exactly "isn't right"? Unfortunately I don't think anyone here can help you with such a vague description. Take it to a mechanic.

You’d consider claiming on your insurance on a car worth less than €1000??? Regardless of what the damage is it’s be cheaper in the long run just to buy another car.

It’s a combination of steam and smoke the car has water and oil, the water tank there’s lots of pressure in the water tank which wasn’t an issue before.when the car is idle and revved water pours from the water tank

The bang was your engine sh1tting itself not hitting something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,582 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Sounds like headgasket but would ask if temp gauge was in the red, fords are also known for stuck stats and engine can over heat.

It definitely hit something on the road, hopefully the engine isn’t F**ked! It’s like I rolled over something, something hit the underneath of the car

No normal temperature gauge was 60! I did have issues in the past where the water tank cracked, which was replaced. I also just had the car serviced and new nct.

When you took the bottle cap off tank was engine hot or cold, when hot you dont remove it or will overflow.Maybe you did run over something, have you checked all fluids, coolant in bottle, oil in engine with dipstick, brake fluid in reservoir, power steering fluid in case of ruptured pipe and funny steering and noise.

It was cold, engine running and revved a few times

Ok if cold and blowing water out of bottle sounds like headgasket failure. If gone when starting in the morning it could run on 3 cylinders until water is out of combustion chamber then may run on 4 cylinders.Sounds like tow truck to garage but could be very expensive repair.

Thank you it’s at the garage now, garage of the insurance company choice. I’ve been told there is damage to the underneath but to what extent I do not know.

Be careful you don’t run up a big bill at the garage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,582 ✭✭✭greasepalm

60 degrees is too cold, not a normal operating temperature at all...

It was half way on the gauge like the middle mark. I thought it is normal it’s never givin any issues before today

When you hit the object is it not quite possible you burst the sump and the car was losing oil....

    Did you check?

If you continued to drive then you quite possibly destroyed it.

Plenty of nicer motors out there unless it's a cheap fix...

You're insurance premium will be taking a big hit! If I read it right, your Company is dealing with a claim.

I would guess they used breakdown cover as they won't be getting anything else off insurance....

This in itself shouldn't affect premium.

But I think the op originally thought they could claim or if they do then it will end up costing them.

If it's in a main dealer then they are going to be absolutely shafted..

Not quite sure but I drove the car 3km to the garage it was then towed to my mechanic, before he could look at it the insurance company took over.

Driving it was stupid I know.... call it a malteser moment!!

Yes correct insurance company, I paid for the recovery truck to my mechanic. As i hit something the insurance company said it’s a claim!

I paid recovery myself! I’m not sure what’s going on now!
Insurance company said it’s a claim.
    I’ve 16 years+ claim free driving.
So if it takes a hit I’ll have to live with it I guess.
Life is **** an when you think it can’t get any ****ter it does!

Is it worth claiming though..... Your premium will be hit considerable....

Honestly I won’t have any other choice.

Claiming on a car like yours is pointless. Your no claims bonus will be gone and it will cost multiples of that the car is worth in increased premiums. Fix it out of your own pocket or replace the car, it will be cheaper in the long run. Even replacing the engine if you want to keep the car would be cheaper than claiming and losing your bonus.:confused:

Look up bangeromics on here.... Pick up a cheap motor and move on..... Obviously if it's crazy fix.

Yes I'm with you, a claim will end up costing the OP far more than €1000

Have you any family members who are familiar with cars? It really would be of benefit for you to get some advice off them on the matter.

I personally can't make head nor tale what might have happened but I will say the easiest thing for you to do is go and buy another car.

You'd get a nice little 07 or 08 kia rio or Chevrolet lacetti or the likes for less than a grand and itd most likely do the finest. If you drop back to 06 or 05 you'd pick up a corolla or civic for similar money.

The no claims bonus might be protected but it doesn't prevent the insurers loading the actual premium by a few hundred euros.

Awh I understand that, As I’ve another car I don’t think they’ll be a need to make a claim just sell what’s left for scrap!

No I’ve not heard anything on the issues as yet, I’ll post here when I find out! Phone call today she said accessors usually take 24/48 hours to do a report!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,795 ✭✭✭Isambard

I wouldn't claim on my own insurance, but if you can identify who was responsible for the damage to your car, you could claim directly from them

What did you do with the old car,? You'd probably get 70-80euro for scrappage.
