Hello all, was wondering if any one has any idea usually how long, on average, they take to let you know the outcome of your interview? They didn't mention it at the interview. Thanks!

Could be a few days, could be a month.
Between hiring managers, HR department and company-wide policies such as hiring freezes, things fall through the cracks. You might never get called back.

I would find it odd that they did give you a time frame for getting back to you, we would most certainly always do so.

It is unfortunately becoming more and more common these days that employers simply renege on such commitments in any case. You will find plenty of posts in this forum where candidates were told that they would get a feedback by a certain date, and nothing happens. I myself find this extremely unprofessional and would not treat anyone that may myself, but it seems that plenty of employers do not care less.

Tip for the future OP, never leave an interview without asking when you can expect to hear back from them. Never be afraid to ask, it is not going to come across as being pushy etc. In your current situation I would see nothing wrong with giving them a call, and openly tell them that you simply forgot to ask as to when you can expect a reply. Note that this should be a call, not an email.

I find that a week is the general time-frame to hear back. Of course, this can be delayed by other factors.

Thanks all! Sorry, should have mentioned it was public sector job which are notoriously slow...but I'm wondering how slow? Was two months before application and interview so I'm wondering if I should assume the same!

Really depends on the company - generally speaking, I find Irish based companies very poor at following up with candidates.

In one case, I had a follow up phone call from a job I applied for one year after I applied !!! I was astonished.

Another company came back to me 3 months after the interview asking me to come back in for a repeat interview.

    These were mid-senior management roles.

First public sector job I got, it took them a week - the next time it was three months. My advice is to put it out of your mind for the time being.
