Driving with no NCT and repairs complete

So my car failed on shock absorbers last month, I have the repairs done with an invoice to prove, and the fail sheet showing it was the only defect.

I have booked a re test for the next available slot but I need my car to commute between now and the re test.

Are there any Gardai or people with similar experience on here that'd know if I'd be let off for no NCT, if I produced the fail sheet, repair bill and retest booking?

Keep all 3 sheets with you, you'll be fine... just don't be doing anything dodgy to give the guards an excuse to do you.

Legally you can be done if you meet a guard who's in very very bad form, assuming the test is out of date

you probably be OK going to the test but commuting with no NCT is asking for trouble.

Your insurance is most likely void as most policies require a valid NCT and all require the car to be road worthy, a car can't be road worthy if it doesn't have an NCT. They will still cover 3rd parties but are now going after the money through the courts. So you risk 5 points and a court appearance if you meet the wrong Garda or are involved in an RTC.

That doesn't make sense. If all Insurers require a car to be roadworthy, and a car can't be roadworthy without an NCT, then why do only most policies require a valid NCT ?

And that's apart from the fact that an NCT only guarantees that a Car is roadworthy at the time of the test.

OP in all honesty, no test is no test. You're just coming here looking for confirmation bias, itll lead to a lot of divisive posting. You dont need to look to deep to find similar threads with similar questions.

So... should we have a higher frequency of tests, or setup something to regularly send diagnostic info to HQ?

Just pointing out that an NCT is only an Indication of the Car's condition on the day of the Test. Most Insurers are well aware of this and simply insist that a Car is roadworthy (rather than NCT'ed).

And that the previous Poster would appear to be contradicting himself for some strange reason.

No different to any other test.

    That's correct.
