All suckler cows and calves housed due to weather unfortunately.
Bull calves penned separate to their cows beside each other - would it be OK to let the bull calves to the cows once a day to suckle for a few days to ease the weaning stress? Cows on hay.

Of course it’s ok, better to wean them gradually, easier on cow and calf. Are you giving the calves silage and a shake of ration or nuts.

The best way of doing it. Gradual weaning.

    Yes, getting ration.
I normally wouldn't be weaning this early but just the way things working out with cattle indoors and shed space. Have the opportunity this way of letting them in/out rather than when out in fields.

Cows on straw for a few days helps too, drips the milk production.

Helps to do them for worms too about 3 weeks before weaning. For you maybe better to hold off till they are well weaned.

Is that the "paddles" you put in their nose? Where do you get them? Are they expensive?
