Will Brexit not be as bad as was feared?

One of the more pessimistic forecasts this week forecast that we could go into recession, but not an extremely deep one. The economists fears seem to be moderating a bit, only last year it was being described as the biggest challenge since independence. Is the Irish economy strong enough now to cope with it reasonably well?

No, of course not. It will be worse.

I say that as someone living in the UK.

It will probably be the greatest disaster since the millennium bug

Ireland will probably escape with a "technical recession" ie a six months economic window with no growth. But some sectors will take a hammering, esp certain diary and most meat exports. It'll not be good for the leisure business either if the currency is around parity come next Spring.

There is a very active thread in Current Affairs on Brexit. Rather than have two light(er) hearted threads, that one can be used.

For more serious discussion there is one in Politics.
