Hi posting for a friend as I have no clue about it so some might on here :)

Basically he tried to open a bank account but had no id and they need it quick. So were told to go to a Garda station and get some sort of ML10 form signed. But was reading online that it can be hard to get. Some say they got it. Others said too hard.

It's kind of up to the guard themselves whether they sign it or not. I used to work in a credit union and we had to give these to people who had no passport or driver's license. Some got it signed no problem and others said the guard wouldn't sign it, so just depends who you get

As above, it will really depend on the Guard.

Your friend can get it done easily if they know a guard or if they know someone who knows a guard and that person will stand as surety for your friends id.

I suggested the same if they knew any Garda. I don't myself too.
I sent them a message (thanks to everyone in this thread) and they rang up the local garda station (probably should have done that to begin with) but.... Garda says they don't do it anymore.

weird. but yet the bank told them to get one.

I dont think it is particularly weird. The garda has to declare that they are satisfied as to the identity of the person seeking the form. You say you dont know any gardai so you need to find some other way of satisfying the gardai of your identity. bit of a chicken and egg situation. Could your friend not get a public services card and use that as ID for the bank?

    They dont have one.
Oh and I meant weird in the sense that they rang up the local garda station and they just flat out said they don't do them anymore. Not like a come down and lets see type deal. Maybe they just don't do them anymore

can they not apply for a PSC card? probably the easiest way around this.

Do they not have / can they not get a passport?

Way back in the day when I first moved over I got a letter from my employer but had to go to the bank and branch they used. I don't suppose it's that easy these days.

I wonder when you meant “they don’t do them anymore “ was that just that specific Garda and not the organisation. My local still does them.
