The recent protest in DC gave me great encouragement. I was chatting to some friends and we all thought it would be a great idea to have similar protest in cities and towns around Ireland. We will try to get a sm campaign going soon. Does anyone here have any ideas? Also, does anyone know how to obtain old used boats? They were very effective in the DC protest. Please pm if you would like to get involved

Extinction Rebellion are going to close down Dublin for a week in October. Were none of your friends aware of this?

You could start by putting your phone or tablet down.

That will do more than any protest.

I found it very encouraging too, I never thought so many irish people cared so deeply about global warming. Maybe change might actually come sometime soon before its too late.

    No it won't.
There is some myth that unless you live in a cave naked eating grass one can't comment or campaign about climate change.

Why would it? Then they wouldn't be able to partake in current society in order to try and change things for the better.

Just tell everyone there'll be free food and a chance to throw something at a politician, you'll get a savage crowd.

Though, ironically, the crowd size may depend on the weather.

Continued protests would be a good idea. The lead up to cristmas should be targeted. Just noticed that when I typed Christmas. it was autocorrected to capatilize the c. I had to go back to de capatilize it!

Because what has peaceful protest achieved so far? It will be a far cry from the annoyance of the effects of unstoppable climate change in a few decades if this level of complacency persists

Im sure a few days wont hurt them and if it does, it just means they have too many children and are a problem for the climate anyway. Maybe you should grow up and take the climate seriously

    woah!!!

this one here is Brainwashed to the hilt.

    hahaha WHAT ?!

do you ever think about what you are saying, what you believe in and why you hold those beliefs?

is it because a blue haired lecturer in your college or school tells you all of these things and presents them all as facts?

the world is NOT ending, Climate Change can NOT be fixed by government intervention, and Greta Thunberg is a 40 year old actress posing as a child.

the climate has always been changing.

WHY would ireland take part in any of this?
it's freezing most of the time, and i personally would love a spanish climate here.

the louder you are about the "climate change" issue, the more people can tell that you have been brainwashed and havent a single thought of your own on any subject.

Pretty clear he doesn’t seems he just told me I shouldn’t have kids if I have to work to feed them.

My god you people are on a different level.

Not violence, no.When did I ever say that? Is that the only two types of protest, not peacful = violent? I would consider this upcoming one to be a disruptive protest rather than earlier ones which were peaceful. It will get peoples attention, and thats what is needed

I dont agree with his comments that people should be guilted for having children. But do you not think its an important issue for your childrens future?

If it "lasts" for a week it'll get all the wrong kind of attention. You need to persuade not make people subject to other people's delusions.

When I read or hear the words Climate Change, I immediately think that this is gonna cost me money.....It should not be that way but it is, hence so much opposition to change.....

Why did you presume my gender? Maybe you should have asked if you wanted to refer to by gender

Absolute bunch of clowns. The need to be part of something and to be seen to be 'helping' the world is laughable.

How can so many people have been so unloved as children or, are most of these still children?

    Clowns

Its pretty obvious that people like you will never be persuaded by argument, and are set in your ways. So what is the alternative?

Oh, I can always be persuaded but you're doing a very poor job of it. The alternative is for you to figure out. Street protests really don't work, peaceful, "disruptive" or violent.

the alternative is to forget about all the nonsense you have been brainwashed to believe, then simply DO NOTHING.

    why do nothing?

because, as you said yourself CLIMATE CHANGE IS UNSTOPPABLE.

if it's unstoppable, why would you want to bring attention to the world governments about the issue, when they will merely extract money from the already working poor to pay for NOTHING, and then the world ends anyway.

    well?

what's the actual point of doing anything about "it"? when "it" is unstoppable anyway.

What is government intervention going to do?

Soon enough us silly Earthlings will realise that we have only 1 home and there are no other viable or reachable alternatives to migrate to.
With that It's good to see reactive Irish people in action. In my experience we (as a collective) are some of the most blatant fence-sitters and cynical nations out there so credit to them.

Maybe its too late , maybe its not but just think of the world you'd like your children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren to live in? If theres anything we can do to prevent a mass migration to the north and uninhabitable equatorial regions then we bloody well should do something about it.
