Bought car from UK - logbook situation

Can't get onto the Department of Transport until tomorrow so said I'd ask here in the meantime and maybe someone might be able to shed some light.

I bought a car in the UK yesterday - while filling out the logbook I went to fill in the new owner address section but above it it says 'Current UK address' which I don't have. On the front of the logbook it said section 5 is to be filled out 'for vehicles that are being permanently exported' but that section was page was missing (UK logbooks have little sections/pages that tear apart and that page was missing).

The seller was an older gent that wasn't familiar with the process for selling a car to a foreign buyer and seems to have misplaced the page (Before anyone suggest this is a scam or the car is stolen or something, it's not.)

Anyway, I said I'd figure it out and he gave me the logbook to bring home with me (as opposed to him keeping it and sending it off himself) along with a signed receipt of sale.

Does anyone know what I have to do now to get this car in my name? I have previous experience with the Dept of Transport here regarding a car purchase where the previous owner never sent them the logbook. The process to get that in my name was relatively quick and straightforward.

    Any advice appreciated.

Do you have the entire V5C registration document? You are supposed to take the entire V5C section of the document with the car. The seller than take the export section and sends that off to the DVLA if they want telling them the car has been permanently exported. You don't need or can get the V5C registration in your name as your not a UK resident. If you don't have the full V5C part then you are in trouble as the DVLA stopped issuing Certificates of Permanent Export a few months back. The VRT office here would have accepted either the V5C or Certificate of Permanent when registering the car here. The car will be in your name once you VRT it here with the proper registration documents.

All the information around selling a car to a foreign buyer for permanent export is on the DVLA's website but many British sellers including motor dealers seem to be ignorant to the process now or the idea of searching for it.

Once you have the front page, that's all the VRT people will want. The little missing strip is only the piece for the DVLA .

You can't register the car in your name in the UK because you are not a resident.

so long as you have the front page , you're golden. You don't need fill anything in, just hand it in when VRTing the car.

When you pay your VRT the car will be automatically registered in your name in Ireland.

You don't fill out any UK paperwork.

I'm assuming you know about VRT but you don't mention it in your post.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
