Disability allowance fit to work

Does anyone know the procedure when you are deemed fit to work after many years on D.A.?

This person had a serious illness for twenty years, (their whole adult life), but with new treatment and surgery and after a long recovery is deemed fit to work.

What happens when they notify social welfare and are they immediately cut off from their allowance and medical card? Is there a review or house visit involved?

Is there any further assistance or are you on your own?

    Any advice would be helpful.
    Thank you.
