Your free travel pass for you and your spouse won't have any affect on what your children will have to pay for their bus and rail fares. They will have to pay the going rate.

You have to buy tickets for your kids. Enquire at the railway station ticket office how much the kids tickets are when you show your FT to get the tickets for yourself and your wife.

Because they can’t be bought to court for not paying a ticket. Also encourages the use of public transport

In summary, the card only covers you and your spouse OP.
And it only covers your spouse when he/she is with you.
You present yourself at the ticket office produce your pass and ask for tickets for yourself and your spouse.
Your spouse will only get a “single” ticket.
If you are returning by train with him/her then you will need to present yourself at that ticket office to get another “single” ticket there.
Tickets for the children will vary in price depending on how far your going and how old your kids are.
