There used to be an system in place where a person who isn't a dealer could buy cattle ex farm for direct slaughter and be reimbursed in their name, not the name on the card, iykwim. These people held a plate (issued by DAFM) similar to the old type of haulage plate that transport companies used to have.
I think this is the case in your situation but I didn't realise they still existed.

i agree , I didn't think they existed either but find it hard to get info , hence the question .

this guy takes the cattle gives you a cheque and kills them out of your herd number .
    problem is ?
he collects the cheque , yet on enquiring the statement if in the original herd owners detail .
who's name is on the cheque I wonder and if it's the herd owners ,then how do these guys cash them and if so , where is revenue on the question of the statement . what not stopping them from asking the herd owner , it's you statement , where's the money gone ?

then if you give the guy 4 cows , he kills them in two statements of 2 and 2 .
wonder are they lodged to 2 accounts .

    i know a lot of if's and but's ,
    I haven't a clue what going on .
but I thought fishy days were over

It was a simple system and predates the current system that was put in place by the Revenue Commissioners where the name or the last name on the reverse on the BTE card receives the payment. That Revenue law was brought in to prevent/stop money laundering.

Basically the brass plate holder bought and paid for your cattle on your farm but when he/she went to the factory they were slaughtered under his/her number and the factory cheque was made out in their name. The holders of the brass plate numbers had to bring them directly to a factory and couldn't bring them home for onward feeding or sell them to anyone else.

I presume (stand corrected) that since the newer DAFM/Revenue system was put in place then they couldn't change it without compensating the people who held those original licences.
** In fairness some younger F&F posters wouldn't have a clue what we are talking about.
