Can anyone tell me why german amazon (amazon.de) won't ship a kindle paperwhite to ireland

is it to do with vat rates or something.....I made a mistake and bought a kindle cover by accident from them, got it returned and now have the credit applied to my account so went to buy the kindle today ....to be told they won't ship the kindle??????

its not clear exactly why they won't ship the product....looking at the links to rules about shipping destinations etc I can see what restrictions apply? and they have shipped the cover to my address..

don't think I can transfer the credit balance on gift card (which is how refund was given) to .co.uk site or similar and just buy it there...any ideas. Ive bought stuff before from them without issues

are they assuming I'm in UK and this is brexit related.....................highly unlikely I know

It's unlikely to be a VAT issue - they are well used to adjusting prices for each geography - its more likely to do with their shipping company and concerns about batteries

I thought it might be that but after trying to order it from .co.uk site there and they are at the same craic...although they will let me buy the charger and the cover which would back up what you are saying

hardly any point in offering a kindle for sale through an online platform if they can't deliver it to customer from any of their sites

I wonder have I been blacklisted by amazon for getting the refund or something, or is my home address in ireland the problem, have an post refused to deliver any devices with a battery

got no joy with customer support when contacted them, ill have a go again

Send it to a parcel forwarding service in the UK, such as Parcel Motel or AddressPal. They will then send it onto you in IE for a small fee. Job done! :)

Can't really help you with that particular problem, only to say that I've come up against similar bizarre restrictions where amazon.de won't deliver to France (where I live). Out of interest, I just placed a dummy order for a kindlewhite on the .de site - 146€ delivered by the weekend. So no crossborder weirdness involved on that product. Out of further interest, I placed the same dummy order on the .fr site: 130€ delivered by the weekend.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that you can use your account credit to buy a gift voucher, but not sure you can give it to yourself. Look into that a bit more - you might be able to offer it to someone closer to home who could place an order or you on another version of Amazon.

Edit: just seen that what I saw on the French site is "with special offers" as opposed to the German one that is "without special offers". No idea what that means, but "without special offers" on the French site makes it 140€ and free postage (so 6€ postage from Germany). BUT over on the .co.uk site, "without special offers" comes in at 122€ incl 5€ postage while the "with special offers" is not available for delivery to France.

Think I'll stick to reading old-fashioned books! :pac:

well the plot thickens (mainly because the customer support people I dealt with have no clue why its happening)

after a long convoluted online chat where multiple outsourced amazon customer service reps chatted with me (i feel its possible I chatted with the entire call centre) and many different strategies whereby cookies, browsing history were deleted, accounts were logged into and out of, payment details were re-entered (by me don't worry I wasn't giving them to anyone :)) etc etc.....nothing changed

then after a phonecall and the same rigmarole, it was suggested I try selecting the version "without special offers" ....the more expensive option which doesn't have the built in advertising on the homescreen

so I gave in and tried this and hey presto even though it said below this item (will not deliver to ireland) it let the order through anyway...so we will see if it gets shipped or stopped at the next phase

its a bit odd tbh...its not like I'm attempting to order an ICBM....and Ive never met a company that would actively discourage selling you more advertising...despite you having to pay extra for the privilege of not having it

I know theres a workaround to buy the special offers version at cheaper price and then get them removed for free but at this stage the whole process has broken my spirit tbh

    I give in

I know and you are correct but I have prime and at the time it wouldnt send it from either site....both jurisdictions in EU (one perhaps won't be soon) ...I mean what a complete pain in the hole. definitely some sort of error

just ship the thing ffs.....was my attitude!

There's no error - it's just Amazon being stupid. I've ordered stuff on the .fr site where the same product on the .co.uk site says it can't be shipped to France. And then I can see that it's being delivered from their UK distribution centre. WTF?
