    Hello again!
    Looking for opinions.

    http://www.cityauctiongroup.com/rockingham/stock/vehicle-detail.aspx?ref=342004VM&location=41

I can buy this for £750 (€800). No VRT, its already on Irish plates. It went through auction tonight and didn't sell. I'm just off the phone to them.
They did the health check, gearbox going through gears fine, engine fine. Noise from suspension, suspected bearing or something.
    No service history.
I forgot to ask about timing belt.

If it was manual I'd be all over it. My concern is primarily around the auto box.
Anyone have any experience of these in an auto.
I'm tempted as a stop gap for the next 6/12 months.

    Any opinions appreciated.

NCT Tested till July 2020 and taxed til April 2020 AFAIK. Normal rate tax too, not exempt or taxi tax.

    Really? Haha!
    Where do I sign!
Any opinion on the car itself Colm?

If you’re into that kinda thing then, yeah, happy days.
I’d chance it, sure there’s €400 tax on it. (I reckon anyway)

    Thanks a mill!
Ya, that's what I'm thinking. It'll do feck all for the first six months when the missus is on maternity anyway.
Are my concerns around the auto box warranted?Granted at that money I can't lose that much but just curious

I’d say it’s the old tiptronic box from the 90s, What’s the issue?

I don't know! I was just wondering is there any major concern tbh. I'm probably gonna buying it in the morning either way tbh.
    Worth the risk!
Still sell the superb while it's worth a few quid and put that money aside to buy something decent in 6/12 months.

Not that I know of, if it was manual the clutch or gearbox could be hanging out of it too.

    Fair point.

I don’t understand the idea of selling the Superb, then buying something in a few months time with the same money. It’s done it’s big depreciating at this stage.

My thinking was if I don't sell now, it'll be worth peanuts in 12 months if we wanna go up to a decent yoke.
If I drive it for 12 months I'll put about 25k min on it. Be hard flog then no?
If I flog now and get maybe €8k, I can put that to one side and in 12 or maybe even 18 months we can look to put a few k with it and get something decent.
It's all a bit manic trying to sort seat space for 3 babies which is why this Sharan is perfect! Buys some time.
I'm happy enough with my A6, I just put 2 tyres in it and did the t/b and water pump!

That’s not true though. Yours 131 is worth in a year what a 12 is worth now.
It does free up cash though, and a Sharan is a handy yoke to have.

Ya, I suppose. I just had it in my head selling cars like mine privately is gonna get harder with the confusion around electric cars/Brexit/f*ck knows what else!
If I could flog now and gather a few quid in the meantime I might get something decent in 12/18 month.
I'll probably be still trying to sell it in 12/18 month..lol!!

    Update;

I checked the NCT & Tax status, Colm you are correct!
    NCT July 2020
    Tax April 2020

Also, it has had one private owner in Ireland since being imported in 2009.
I bought it this morning over the phone!
With History check, some class of a health check they do and auction fees it came to €900.

That's technically bangernomics. Purchased outside the state but not needing VRT!

    Viva la bangernomics :pac:

I'd be making sure there isn't a powershift auto box in it

    Is that a powershift?

Dunno why I'm asking, I have the feckin' thing bought now..!

Powershift is 6 speed and is on the newer Galaxy as opposed to the one that was a rebadged Sharan.

    (Far as I know)

    I’m 90% sure it’s the 5 speed tiptronic box.

Didn’t VW have a partnership with Ford for the Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra in that they were all based on each other ? I know 2.0 tdci Galaxy’s have that box, Volvo’s and other PSA engines as well.

If it’s 5 speed you’re sorted. If you see anything with the power shift box run for the hills. It says it on the gearstick. They are the main bread and butter for the gearbox centre here in Cork with breakages coming from all over the country.

    Hello,

Just an annual update on this particular bangernomic!

Turns out it was imported to Ireland in 2009 an was owned by the same owner until I got my paws on it.
I paid €900 for it a year ago with 146k miles. In fairness the car is incredibly clean and well minded for a 13 year old people carrier.
    Anyway in the last year;
    Current mileage 160k miles
    2 x services
2 x front tyres (2 nearly new rear tyres on it when I bought)
    I had T/B & waterpump done at 150k miles
    front pads at 158k miles.
    Thats it!

Its as slow as a wet week, but it has hauled our three kids around for the last year without missing a beat.
getting high 30s mpg, which is not bad considering its essentially a van!
front and rear parking sensors are a nice touch for a 13 year old wagon, and the fact that all 5 rear seats are easily removed and interchangable is very handy.
Incredibly practical and reliable for the last 12 months.
