Just wondering does anyone have any experience of this?

Found a coke bottle in our road at the weekend, wrapped up inside was a court summons (was wet so couldn't make out what this c**t was in court for) with this lads name and address.

Do you just rock into the garda station?

On my County Council's website, they say:
If you are aware of incidences of littering, just contact the litter wardens and they will act on the information (including seeing people discarding litter from vehicles- just take a note of the vehicle registration).

If you would like to talk to the litter warden in confidence, you can meet them by arrangement.

They give the contact details too, of course. It's not a matter for the Gardaí.

You'll be lucky to get a guard to investigate a robbery let alone littering.

It's the councils remit anyway and you have no proof who did it

Better to just fill the bottle with petrol, use the summons as a fuse and throw it through the guys window. Its the only way he'll learn.

Definitely do report. That person threw litter on the public street - anybody could have seen them - it's not a secret !

So, if they aren't ashamed, they shouldn't object to you publicising them. Name, shame, report, prosecute.

    Do it every time.

I regularly pick up things (litter) that people have dropped and hand it back to them: "Excuse me, you just dropped this."
They are usually uncomfortable, often hostile. Usually refuse to take it back!

But I like to imagine that they will think twice the next time - or at least look over their shoulders for that mad eco-warrior :-)

    Discomfort is a great teacher.

If he is throwing away a court summons to do you think a littering fine will bother him?

but a bottle dumped ON your road? You'd go to the trouble of contacting the garda for that!?
Council is just gonna come along and pick it up. Don't be involving yourself in such stupid little matters.

The gardai are over worked , under staffed ,
dealing with serious crime, drug dealers , feuds between gangs, anti social behavior .
and now you want them to deal with litter .
    is this a joke ?
report to the council if you see a fridge or a large amount of litter
    in a certain place .

Cigarette smokers are the worse. Littering every day the cigarette wrappers and butts, even next to a bin.

It's one thing if it was thrown in your garden or something.... maybe ..... like if it bounced off your window sure .... but a bottle dumped ON your road? You'd go to the trouble of contacting the litter warden for that?

Council is just gonna come along and pick it up. You think joe council worker is gonna care that there is something with someones address inside it? off to the bin with it.

Don't be involving yourself in such stupid little matters.

When I say my road, I literally mean my road, not a public road

Once a year I take 4-5 bags of rubbish off the main road that runs along my land

Every week i see bags full of rubbish, that are placed beside a council litter bin,as i pass by at 11 am,
    on a public road.
I presume they are collected by the person who emptys the bin,
as they are gone by 2 pm.

I edited my post as you were replying for clarity. Wasn't me being sarcastic or anything. I thought you said Litter Warden. You said Garda.

So you mean your drive way?

I caught tow cars littering few years ago. Took photos.

Contacted council and reported supplying information.

From then it took six months and repeated calls to get any action, I had to supply a signed statement that I was willing to go to court as a witness.

Finally two €80 fines were issues and it was uncontested by either party.

It was too difficult and took far too much effort and pushing.

I’m 100% sure if I’d left it then nothing would have happened.

Unless your house in Cork gets robbed then they bring the helicopters out plus multiple cars and motorbikes.

Into the nearest bin, or "rock" on down the road. I wouldn't get tangled up in someone else's affairs.

Why not? Ruin a scumbags day, whats the harm, the OP will be out of the situation once its dropped to the gardai

There's a freephone hotline here to report littering and the Litter Wardens are very quick to act on any reports, chase up receipts or any identifying paperwork found.

Id say report, but having found evidence within an instance of littering, which I was willing to send to the council, they wanted me to print off the pictures too, when I could have just emailed them.
My printer is on the blink recognising cartridges or not on a whim so I just gave up,
In general, Im not sure why the councils exist as they seem to routinely fail to act on areas within their remit, I reported a few things over the years and they just dont seem to be bothered.

It must vary by council. Here, if you phone the council the litter warden calls out and checks the offending litter for evidence of the culprit and they most certainly follow up with fines, at a minimum, and court action if necessary
