Not sure if this is the right place to post this.

Our friends, unfortunately, just had a stillborn baby, at 34 weeks. They will bring the child back to Poland for burial, my question is probably stupid, but is a passport required for a dead body? They will have all the other relevant paperwork.

How very sad. No passport. They need to speak to a local funeral director here in Ireland to get help and advice about taking their baby to Poland.

A dead baby is just freight, generally. They go through the cargo terminals at the airport and are x-rayed etc. (ie; you don't buy it a seat on the plane). You'll generally use a freight company, although I believe the funeral director generally arrange all this.

Friend of mine works in the airport and has seen them come through (not a common sight, of course).

It seems a bit cold to treat a dead baby as a piece of luggage, but at the end of the day, to the airlines, airports, etc. that's all it is (though naturally for the family it's devastating).

    Sorry to hear the news.
