Hello, I'm enquiring into FIS waiting time for a friend who has been waiting 7months for it to come through. Does anyone know why someone would be waiting so long to get approved.

Did your friend get confirmation the application was recieved?

7 months is way over the currant wait time, so something has obviously gone wrong with the ap, perhaps they were asked for more evidence of earnings and didnt send it or the letter fgot lost in the post.

The only thing they can do is call but they may need to submit a new application at this point

Would they still get back dated till when they first applied!

7 months is an extremely long time to be waiting. They should definitely ring.

In theory WFP (previously FIS) is backdated from the date the applicants' claim is received. However, I don't know what the story is if the claim had gotten lost in the post OR if it had been received but the claimant was asked to furnish further documentation and didn't (for whatever reason). Seven months is WAY over the expected wait time for a decision either way. It usually takes in the region of 12-16 weeks for a claim to be processed. I'd advise your friend to contact the WFP team ASAP.

It is also possible that the Application was sent to the local Social Welfare Inspector for further investigation, but even so that wouldn't explain a 7 month delay.

Maybe this is what's happening. What does the welfare inspector do on their end.

The inspector examines the claim on a local basis. Will observe comings and goings from the home for a few days and will then call to the house to see the family at home. It’s to see if the information supplied in the application matches reality.
