Recommend a family hotel in Lanzarote

    Folks,

I'm planning on bringing my wife and daughter to Lanzarote in mid October.

My daughter is 11, so a pool etc would be essential.

Looking for a hotel that's suitable for a family. This is an odd request - looking for comfortable beds - stayed in a hotel before where the facilities were great but impossible to sleep on the beds.

As there'll be 3 of us, bedrooms would need to accomodate 3 i.e. double and single bed or we'd consider 2 bed apartments if the costs weren't too high.

Any recommendations would be very welcome.

Volcan Hotel Playa Blanca side of the island- you won’t go wrong with that- it’s not the cheapest but it’s quality

Princess Yaiza down the road from it, about a mile, is very popular with families but expensive (not that the Vulcan is cheap, it’s not)

Volcan would be a more “sedate” sort of resort but great pools and good food.

Apartmentos Fariones in Puerto Del Carmen - a two bed apartment would suit you. It's not five star but the rooms are fine with a sofa, TV and kitchenette and there's a big pool and excellent buffet breakfast. I've been there twice and the beds are fine. It's bang in the middle of town at the western end of the strip and you can walk to the old town. http://www.apartamentos-fariones.com/en/ If you rent a car, there's plenty of free parking in the side roads.

The H10 Lanzarote Princess in Playa Blanca:

Modern, comfy beds and loads of big pillows. It also has a large pool and is a 5 minute walk from a small, safe beach. Playa Blanca overall is very family friendly.

I find that the beds in most H10 hotels are very good. I have issues with my back so good beds are important to me too.

Yea, they also have a dedicated family wing of the hotel with family suites and pool etc. Was lucky enough to stay there once and it was fantastic.

Would appreciate it if someone (who has been to both places) could do a brief comparison of PDC v. Playa Blanca. I've been to PDC three times now, rented a car last time and drove to several places but never got around to visiting Playa Blanca so would be interested in how the town compares to PDC.

Yep. Just out the back gate and you’re there. Reviews in last year are “mixed”- with hotels it’s all about how long ago they updated their rooms- some reviews of the Yazia aren’t so kind in terms of rooms, considering the price.

    Been to both.
It really depends what sort of holiday you want- tell me the holiday and the kind of day and evening life u want first. I’m not going to write out a compare/contrast post just for the hell of it :P

Stayed there last year and would highly recommend. Apartment Velaquez in Puerto Del Carmen also a good one.

    Exactly.

What age are you? Do you have kids?
Do you want beaches or activities?

We were in PB in 2004 and the yaiza was new enough then
Envy every day at beach looking at it
    Walked inside once lovely hotel

With PB aswell you can hop on ferry for a day trip to Corralejo in Fuerteventura

We’re staying in Corralejo next year and will be going over to PB to see how it’s changed in 15yrs

Friend has gone to Princess Yaiza every year for approx. 10-12 years. They know the family by name now there.

He says the service and quality has stood the test of time.

It's very upper middoe class professionals, but v relaxed and friendly.

I wouldn’t look past the Yazia if budget allows

Yaiza looks lovely, we’ve stayed in the Volcan twice and it’s a great hotel perfect for families. The restaurants in the marina are fantastic and just outside the door.

Sorry, should have set out my requirements.

Grey (50+) brigade so not interested in kiddie attractions or loud music/disco pubs. Good selection of decent restaurants in the evening and lots of casual food options during the day. A few civilised pubs for a drink in the evening, don't mind if there's sport on the TV but not a wall to wall soccer pub.

Playa Blanca is full of good restaurants especially by the marina, a few pubs but not loads my favorite is a small place called the flagship. Beach is nice and sheltered. It’s a quiet enough spot but you won’t get much of a late night.

We stayed in the Sol in July. We've an 11 year old and 1 year old. The 11 year old made heaps of friends and she was off playing all day.

It is all inclusive, we got a really great deal in March by booking direct with the hotel, they're called Melia and have an app.

The family room has separate room for the child with sliding doors. The biggest bed I've ever laid on in the main room, very comfortable.

Its right on the beach, very close to the airport(5 mins in taxi) We normally stay in peurto del carmen so we got a taxi in there for dinner twice and for a walk around to see the place. Theres a large commercial centre to the left when you leave the hotel from the beach exit with lots of bars and those nik nak shops and a spar. We're looking into going again next year.

I've been in lanzarote 7 times, will be my 8th next year. Stayed in Puerto del carmen twice, matagorda once, Costa teguise once and playa Blanca 3 times, will be 4 times next year. Out of all of them as you can see playa Blanca is a hit and what you are definately looking for. We stayed in the family life flamingo beach resort twice 3rd time next year we loved it but I'd say your best bet would be the new iberostar at flamingo beach, couldn't stop peaking in at it when we were there, its fab!

Playa Blanca side of the Island- by all means hang out in Peurto Del Carmen throughout the day and do a bit of window shopping and walking about but stay in Playa Blanca- and the Vulcan would be quieter than Yazia- Yazia can be a bit mad with families and kids, so it's full on - Vulcan is more mix of families and older couples so not as intense.
5 Minute walk from the Vulcan is the Bluenote restaurant which is really cool and great food- but there's a number of good restaurants all around there.
