HomeCaring Periods Scheme

The HomeCaring Periods Scheme makes it easier for people who take time out of their working life to care for children or adults to qualify for a State Pension (Contributory).

Under the Scheme, periods of time when you were caring for someone can be included in your social insurance record.

To qualify for a HomeCaring Period you need to be born on or after 1 September 1946. Does anyone know of a scheme that can be used for people who were born before 1 September 1946. I can't any information on it and I find it hard to believe that there isn't something available for pensioners in this bracket.

Pensioners born before that date only needed 5 years of contributions to be eligible for a pension.
Also if you had an average of as little as 20 contributions you had an entitlement to a pension that is only €5 less then the maximum amount of pension that a person with an average of 48 contributions has.

You needed to have turned 66 before 1 September 2012.
